Since its release in February, ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot created by OpenAI, has become ubiquitous in online conversations, promotional emails, and even dinner table discussions. According to a recent survey by job advice platform Resumebuilder.com, almost half of the companies surveyed have implemented the chatbot, with approximately half of those reporting that ChatGPT has already replaced workers in their companies.

Companies already using ChatGPT are employing the technology for a range of purposes, including writing code, copywriting and content creation, customer support, and drafting meeting summaries and other documents. In the hiring process, companies are using ChatGPT to help write job descriptions, draft interview requisitions, and respond to applications. Business leaders who have implemented ChatGPT reported being impressed with the quality of work produced by the chatbot, with 55% saying the work was “excellent” and 34% describing it as “very good.”

Despite the enthusiasm of business leaders, ChatGPT is not without its critics. Concerns have been raised about cheating and plagiarism, racism and sexism bias, accuracy, and overall questions about how it has been trained to learn. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has warned that ChatGPT should not be relied on for “anything important,” and there are fears about the potential dangers posed by AI technology and the iterations to follow.

While the economic model for using ChatGPT is still evolving, the survey found that almost all of the companies using the chatbot reported savings, with 48% saving more than $50,000 and 11% saving more than $100,000. Companies are planning to expand their use of ChatGPT, with 93% of businesses identified as using the chatbot planning to increase their usage.

As with any new technology, the use of ChatGPT is continuously evolving, and its impact on the workplace is yet to be fully understood. While some have praised its ability to streamline job responsibilities, others have warned that it should be treated as a toy rather than a tool. Whatever the future holds for ChatGPT and other AI tools, it is clear that they will continue to play an increasingly important role in the workplace.
