We are currently collaborating with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre to recruit a talented Expert in AI/NLP/ML.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects at the forefront of digital innovation.

As part of this dynamic team, you will be responsible for implementing technical solutions to process and visualize data related to research activities. Your role will involve working on various projects, collaborating with stakeholders, and leveraging advanced AI/NLP/ML techniques to address scientific needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collect business requirements and develop/customize/deploy/maintain/improve software applications in the fields of data mining, NLP, ML, and AI.
  • Interact with business analysts, customers, users, and project leaders to gather requirements and define data rules.
  • Train custom machine learning/deep learning models based on structured and unstructured data.
  • Select features, build, and optimize classifiers using machine learning techniques.
  • Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Design IT architecture for solutions in NLP/ML/AI fields and coordinate implementation.
  • Analyze data architecture for consistency, completeness, accuracy, and propose/implement improvements.
  • Contribute to the analysis of data management vision, strategy, and policy, deriving IT requirements.
  • Script, program, and conduct related testing and tuning.
  • Define data controls and ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Create automated anomaly detection systems and track performance.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of analytics architecture and solution stack.
  • Write documentation associated with tasks and liaise with other project teams as necessary.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum education: master’s degree
  • Excellent knowledge of Python 3, Elasticsearch, SQL tooling, and data analytics techniques.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., D3.js, PowerBI) and/or business intelligence tools.
  • Proven experience in data engineering tasks and NLP/ML algorithms.
  • Familiarity with continuous code delivery, unit testing, and agile software development methodologies.
  • Good applied statistics skills and ability to write clear technical documents.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in English (B2 level).

Desired Skills:

  • Expertise in Python 3 libraries for data management and AI (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, TensorFlow).
  • Knowledge of RDBMS, NoSQL databases, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Hands-on experience with large language model (LLM) product-based development.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Machine Learning, Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate).

Work Environment and Conditions:

  • Service delivery mode: Onsite at Ispra, Italy.
  • IT equipment provided by the Commission.
