Title:  Business Intelligence Developer – 12 month contract

Reports to:  Director BI and Data Integrity

Job Purpose:   The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer (BI Dev) manages in-house BI software and systems to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Planning, designing, developing, implementing, report development, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all BI software and systems.

• Analyze and resolve end user problems related to databases and data warehouses, and reports in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.

• Responsible for the technical implementation of current and future data lakes, data warehouse, business intelligence solutions and data migration strategies.

• Collaborate with BI group and department leads in delivering a working DataMart to meet business requirements.

• Oversees the data warehouse architecture resulting in the delivery of an efficient BI platform.

• Driven from business requirements, architects, implements, and builds solutions to assist in the generation of standard or custom reports summarizing business KPI and financials for review by executives, managers, and other stakeholders.

• Leads the BI group in the creation and maintenance of business intelligence tools, databases, dashboards, systems (on-premise and cloud), cubes (OLAP) and DevOps. Rationalizes new data requirements to avoid data/reports duplication.

• Provide technical documentation and technical support for existing reports, dashboards, or other tools. Maintain a library of model documents, templates, or other reusable knowledge assets. Creates or reviews technical design documentation to ensure the accurate development of reporting solutions.

• Provide input into the development of system testing strategies and plans. Validate that developed solutions align with defined business requirements

• Contribute to the strategic direction of the BI platform, the creation of the BI roadmap, the selection of new tools, and the overall integrity of information delivery. Expand knowledge of broader range of Business Intelligence products and tools.

Education and Experience:

• Preference given to those with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, finance, statistics, or related field with equivalent experience. MBA is considered an asset.

• Minimum 4+ years architecting, implementing, and developing a total business metrics, analytics, and intelligence platform.

• Experience interacting directly with customers to elicit, document, and implement solutions.

• Experienced in full business analysis value lifecycle including – planning, analysis, design, implementation, and improvement, following the Agile methodology.

• Prior experience publishing reports (SSRS, PowerBI, PowerPivot, and/or SharePoint).

• Experience working in a manufacturing/distribution organization consider an asset.

• Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), DM&A, DP, BI considered an asset.

• Microsoft Azure Data Engineering (DP-203) or equivalent considered and asset.

• Project Management Professional Certification is considered an asset. 

• Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) designation is considered an asset

• Knowledge of one or more Data Warehouse design methodologies and implementation (Inmon CIF, Kimball Dimensional, Data Vault 2.0) with preference to Kimball or Data Vault 2.0.

• Advanced Microsoft SQL server knowledge with server administration (DBA) experience.

• Advanced SQL language skills (SQL, MDX, DAX, DDL, DML, DQL, DCL, ADX, and/or XML).

• Has delivered analytics and insight by creating standard and custom cubes/reports using the Microsoft Business Intelligence development stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS).

• Advanced knowledge of Online Analytical Processing, Online Transaction Processing, Extract – Transform Load operations and Data Warehousing.

• Prior Experience with Microsoft Azure Data Engineering Platforms (Azure SQL, Azure Manage SQL, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, and/or Azure Databricks).

• Demonstrated understanding of all key components required to deliver a Business Intelligence solution and their relationship, including data warehousing, data governance, and data modelling.

• Prior experience with report writing tools (Excel Power Pivot, Excel Power Query, Power BI and/or Reporting Services) considered an asset.

• Prior experience working with Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain data considered and asset.

• Knowledge and/or prior experience working with Power Shell, Bash or Azure CLI considered an asset.

• Intermediate Excel/Access skills, including VBA scripting considered an asset. Intermediate PowerPoint, Word, Visio skills considered an asset.

• Programming languages such as C#, C++, C, VB, AngularJS, JS will be considered an asset.

• Oracle experience considered an asset.

• Proficient with the design of database architectures, data warehouses, data migrations, data marts, decision support systems, business intelligence packages, and implementing user reporting solutions based upon business requirement and content knowledge. 

• Must have management skills to drive projects to completion on schedule with team members and mid-level business professionals. 

• Strong understanding database methodology, data analysis, advanced SQL queries, ETL and business intelligence application required.

• Manages competing priorities in an effective and positive manner.
