Job Description

PROCEPT BioRobotics is a surgical robotics company enabling better patient care by developing transformative solutions in urology. With an initial focus on BPH, the company’s AquaBeam® Robotic System delivering Aquablation therapy, is the first FDA-cleared, automated surgical robot for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Aquablation therapy combines real-time, multi-dimensional imaging, automated robotics and heat-free waterjet ablation for targeted, controlled, and immediate removal of prostate tissue. Aquablation therapy offers predictable and reproducible outcomes, independent of prostate anatomy, prostate size or surgeon experience. 
SUMMARY
We are seeking a talented and motivated Machine Learning Intern to join our dynamic team. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work on real-world medical imaging machine learning projects, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with our medical image analysis team to develop and implement machine learning algorithms for medical image segmentation, classification, and analysis.
  • Conduct literature reviews on latest research in medical image analysis and machine learning to keep current with latest developments across research and the major commercial players, and propose innovative ideas.
  • Participate in training and fine-tuning deep learning models for tasks such as tumor detection, organ segmentation, or disease classification.
  • Working on 3D reconstruction of ultrasound images and 2D/3D segmentation of ultrasound images. 
  • Analyze and interpret the results of machine learning experiments, providing insights and recommendations to improve model performance.
  • Document all research, experiments, and findings in clear and detailed reports.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Certifications)

  • PhD or MS student with paper publication on Computer Vision or Medical Imaging Processing, or a related field. 
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning principles, algorithms, and techniques, with a focus on their application in medical image analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and experience with popular machine learning libraries like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience with 3D reconstruction and 3D rendering development a major plus, willingness to learn a must. 
  • Experience with multi-modal image registration and fusion a strong plus.  
  • Familiarity with medical imaging modalities (e.g., MRI, CT, ultrasound) and related DICOM standards is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of image preprocessing, data augmentation, and transfer learning techniques in the context of medical image analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically about medical imaging challenges and potential solutions.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Previous experience with medical image analysis projects, coursework, or research is desirable but not mandatory.

  • The employee may be exposed to hazards including electrical sparking, water, and chemicals, for which proper protective equipment will be assigned and worn.

While our ranges are posted, the exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the successful candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, location or comparison to other employees already in similar roles. In addition to base salary, our positions are eligible for variable compensation through one of our incentive plans as well as equity compensation based on role and level.
