Controls Research Engineer – Propulsion Controls
Job Description
Controls Research Engineer – Develop control systems for gasoline and hybrid powertrains and sub-systems, including Air, Fuel, Spark, EGR and aftertreatment. Employ advanced control methods (examples: Model Predictive Control, Adaptive Control, Optimal Control) and signal processing techniques for new powertrain technologies and to improve existing control system performance and robustness. Develop models and simulations to support system characterization, control design, implementation and validation. Develop engine diagnostics for OBD regulation. Collect and analyze experimental engine and vehicle data. Design experiments to support validation of engine control systems. Provide input for engine and vehicle instrumentation. Implement algorithms into embedded controller code C language. Leverage software version control in clearcase, Git Hub
- Develop control systems for gasoline and hybrid powertrains and sub-systems.
- Air, Fuel, Spark, EGR, Torque delivery features and systems
- Employ conventional and advanced control system methods
- Model Predictive Control, Adaptive Control, Optimal Control) and signal processing techniques for new powertrain technologies and to improve existing control system performance and robustness.
- Develop models and simulations to support system characterization, controls system design and validation.
- Develop engine diagnostics for OBD regulation
- Collect and analyze experimental engine and vehicle data including specifying instrumentation and designing experiments to characterize system and validate control robustness
- Implement control system in rapid prototype system controllers including autocoding.
- Implement algorithms into embedded controller code C language ,and maintain version control in Clearcase, Github
You’ll have…
- Requires a bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related engineering field.
- 3 years of experience performing control design and modeling for mechanical or electrical systems
- 3 years of experience performing control development and systems analysis with Matlab and Simulink
- 3 years of experience performing data analysis for mechanical or electrical systems
Even better, you may have…
- Master’s or foreign equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related engineering field.
(in lieu of a master’s degree, will accept a BS . in aforementioned fields and 5 years of experience as stated or PhD and 1 year of experience in aforementioned fields). - 1 year of experience designing controls for and testing internal combustion engines and emissions (in lieu of a master’s degree, will accept a Ph.D. with related coursework and research projects).
- 1 year of experience applying advanced signal processing techniques (in lieu of a master’s degree, will accept a BS and 3 years of experience or Ph.D. with related coursework and research projects).
- 1 year of experience working with hybrid powertrain or related coursework
- Experience working in cross functional teams
- Experience presenting to stakeholders and management
- Experience with HIL / SIL methods
- Experience with engine calibration tools and rapid prototyping systems
- Working knowledge of “C” programming language and ability to code in “C” in embedded controllers.
- Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently
