Job Description

Data Analyst

Join us and build a streaming platform used by millions.

Sky is one of Europe’s leading media and entertainment companies, and a part of Comcast Corporation, which also owns NBCUniversal (NBCU). We create award-winning original content, produce the biggest live sporting events and provide free access to news and the arts.  We work on the Global Streaming Platform supporting various video-on-demand products including Sky Showtime, Peacock and Showmax. The Sky Tech Hub in Prague consists of around 100 people and will continue to grow. These are mostly developers, video streaming enthusiasts and experts, with extensive experience across markets, technologies, and products working on the Global Streaming Platform. We work closely with our colleagues in the UK, Portugal and the United States.

What role will you play?

As our Data Analyst you will join our Content Delivery Engineering team, reporting into the Global Video Engineering organization at NBCUniversal. You will be responsible for providing reliable insight and investigation to ensure our streaming propositions provide exceptional experiences of streaming VOD (Video on Demand), Event and Linear content to many millions of subscribers across our streaming products – Peacock, Sky Showtime, Showmax and Now/Wow TV.

The role requires daily collaboration with our colleagues, cross functional teams, and vendors primarily across the US, UK and beyond – excellent spoken and written English is a must.

The Content Delivery Engineering team’s expertise is focussed on the web-scale deployment of Content Delivery Networks with the associated performance telemetry, analytics and CDN selection. We also interface with content origins, dynamic ad insertion and adaptive technologies to fit playback to audiences.

What You’ll Do:

  • Rolling reviews of VOD & Live delivery KPIs collected from CDN and origin infrastructure serving five product sets across three continents, aligned with analysis of associated client-side playback data. Review results are to inform CDN engineering teams, driving a pro-active approach to issue management.

  • Establish methods to determine BAU performance levels for products, events, regions and countries and detect outlier readings & trends – with a view to build automation to drive/ improve automatic alerting.

  • Develop detected issues and perform ad-hoc data analysis requests by using graphing & analytics tools, querying the lakes our Data teams have established, containing CDN, origin, video platform and client-side telemetry to uncover complex, multi-faceted and sometimes deep-rooted problems.

  • Take FinOps to the next level of detail – breaking down our metered usage of cloud and third-party vendor services, by proposition, product & region, helping optimise spend, balancing performance with cost with high peak to mean consumption.

  • Assist in the development and upkeep of structured/focussed KPI reporting to assist with regular vendor performance reviews.

  • Enjoy working with a wide range of internal teams throughout the business, for example: Decision Sciences(forecasting), Finance, FinOps, Test, Content Delivery & Data Engineering to achieve improvements and goals set and reviewed by our senior management.

What skills do you need to play your role well?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a relevant field is preferred.

  • Minimum five years of experience working with big data, ETL, pipelines for investigation and analysis.

  • Proficiency in data analysis & visualisation tools, eg. Excel, Bigquery, Kibana, Splunk, Looker, Grafana.

  • Team player with a collaborative mindset who enjoys working with a culturally diverse team.

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tools, techniques, and technologies in the field of data analysis.
