The Office of Innovation and Incubation (I&I) provides incubation, management, and oversight of charter, contract, and alternative schools as options for CPS students and families. I&I also leads the district’s Academic RFP process, which provides school communities across the city with access to highly demanded programs. I&I oversees approximately 90 Charter and Contract Schools which together educate nearly 55,000 students.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Performance and Accountability, the I&I Data Analyst is a key member of the I&I team who oversees initiatives that hold schools accountable to criteria set forth in their School Agreements with the Board of Education of the City of Chicago (the “Board”), applicable CPS policy, and the Illinois Charter Schools Law. This is a full-time, exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis.
The I&I Data Analyst will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the I&I Data Strategist to support data-driven strategies, empowering principals and school teams in alignment with District and Office of I&I objectives.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret requirements for the generation and evaluation of school performance data to support charter and contract school renewal recommendations.
- Assist with the engagement with schools participating in the Academic Support Process, building effective data cycles and analyzing trends to provide actionable insights for academic strategic decision-making and charter overall academic performance.
- Develop and review operational and school-based reports to identify key business drivers and ensure data accuracy.
- Utilize student outcome data to support targeted school interventions, focusing on strengthening cycles of inquiry and data use in planning processes.
- Provide structured support to school teams identified within the Academic Support process, aiding in the creation of continuous improvement tools and capacity-building around data-driven inquiry cycles, and tracking the measurable outcomes of remediation goals.
- Deliver ongoing, constructive feedback to school leaders to refine and enhance their data strategies for improved educational outcomes.
- Assist in data monitoring and compliance processes that impact the student experience, including areas such as special education and student discipline data.
- Design, optimize, and present performance management dashboards, scorecards, and reports to effectively communicate academic, financial, and operational metrics related to school performance.
- Support the collection of student and employee-level data for district accountability initiatives and reporting requirements for the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Ensure data quality and integrity across school data submissions, adhering to guiding principles for analytic practice as established by the Data Governance Council.
- Ability to identify problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions from performance data to make strategic recommendations to senior leadership and the Board around charter and contract school actions.
- Conduct ad hoc analyses as requested by departmental leadership to address specific questions or challenges: student transition, board data analysis, charter appeal
- Lead data cycle and analysis of academic and financial accountability frameworks
- Participate in the District’s Data Analyst User Group
- Other duties as assigned
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Data Analyst must possess the following qualifications:
Type of Education Required:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required ; quantitative field preferred
Type of Experience Required:
- A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in a role requiring data analysis, relationship management, and consultative skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to use or quickly learn and leverage SAS and SQL
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and Google Workspace applications
- Exceptional organizational, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills
- Ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment, respond immediately to multiple constituencies and meet established deadlines
- Ability to work in a team, with technical and non-technical personnel, and across departmental boundaries
- Capable of success both working independently with general guidance and as a collaborative member of a team
- Capable of coordinating efforts and facilitating collaboration with a variety of individuals whose priorities may differ
- Strong attention to detail
- Flexibility to meet changing departmental needs and priorities
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency – Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions.
