Job Description

Are you passionate about fighting climate change? Do you want to work on creating a world where everyone can breathe clean air? At Breathe, we believe an electrified future is key to achieving this, which is why we are building battery technology to help brands do more with the power they have.

Our physics-based battery management software helps some of the world’s largest and most iconic automotive and consumer electronics brands deliver products with faster charging, longer life and zero compromise on safety. Put simply, we make batteries better. And we want you to join us.

What you will be doing

This is an exciting time to join Breathe. You will be enabling us to scale the development and delivery of cutting-edge products that will be used by some of the world’s most recognised brands in automotive and consumer electronics.

We are looking for an experienced data engineer to help ready our data systems and infrastructure to enable us to scale rapidly. You’ll need a broad interest and skillset to tackle work that will improve our delivery pace and quality. You’ll help design, develop and implement solutions across:

  • Data pipelining – e.g. continuously transferring data from battery test hardware in our lab to the cloud
  • Data processing/analysis – e.g. detecting in the data quickly and notifying the team to rectify them
  • Data tooling: allowing easy access to and analysis of data by other teams

This is a unique opportunity for someone to drive meaningful commercial outcomes for both Breathe and our customers as we look to accelerate the electrification of everything. We’ll intentionally support opportunities for you to develop, be that courses, conferences, mentorship or something else.

Responsibilities

  • Scope out solutions with the team and deliver them to a high standard.
  • Write high quality, testable code along with unit and integration tests to ensure quality and robustness.
  • Communicate with the team when priorities or timelines change.
  • Help to continuously improve our Software Engineering practices, including the automation of processes where possible
  • Support the users of our software solutions to debug problems when they occur, and collect feedback for new features to help make data processing and analysis more efficient.

Requirements

  • Experience with using and architecting databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL) (3y+)
  • Experience with software CI/CI (Jenkins, GitHub actions…) (3y+)
  • Experience with python (3y+)
  • Experience with infrastructure (networking and resources in Azure, networking on-prem)
  • Experience building data analysis pipelines, managing time series data and meta data
  • Strong time-management skills to deliver projects in a timely manner
  • Flexibility in a rapidly evolving environment, with changing priorities
  • Experience in Matlab is a plus, but not essential
  • Experience building front-end web applications for dashboards or data visualisation is a plus, but not essential
  • Kind and conscientious

Benefits

  • A small, talented and cohesive team delivering exciting products.
  • The ability to have a big say in how the company is run and where we are going.
  • Share options scheme.
  • 34 days holidays per annum including public holidays.
  • Ethical pension scheme.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Central and East London locations.
