Our community of over 5,000 engineers is key to making this happen, because technology underpins every part of our business – from delivering tools, apps and services for our customers, to building a bank for the future.

About the Role

At ANZ our purpose is to shape a world where people and communities thrive and to achieve this, we need a talented Data Engineer to join our Australia Commercial tribe. The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and creating data processing solutions that enable value from analytic models to drive rapid decision making.

A key element of this is driving the data engineering agenda within the Commercial Division, ensuring delivery of best practice end-to-end data engineering respecting ANZ architecture standards.  You will challenge inefficient engineering practise in ANZ and influence change in your field to drive better business outcomes. To this end, in the role you will implement smart and relevant data engineering to drive E2E application delivery and support the uplift of data engineering capability in Commercial Division, while linking into the wider Enterprise Analytics roadmap.

What will your day look like?

As a Senior Data Engineer, you are deepening your expertise and developing strong foundations. You are continuously broadening and adding more skills to your toolkit, setting yourself up for your chosen career path within the engineering discipline. You are starting to take on more of a leadership role, expanding your mentoring and coaching with more junior practitioners. You are beginning to take a ‘system’ view by contributing to architecture and technology strategies.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you are expected to:
•     Understand elements of the end-to-end data development lifecycle and abstract away from the end users to enable self-service and reduce the complexity of data pipeline development
•     Independently use existing data ingestion and transformation patterns and frameworks to create batch and streaming pipelines
•     Use intermediate modelling techniques and guide junior squad members to design data objects for ease of access / use.
•     Use existing tools and techniques to profile data in order to understand how to build stable pipelines
•     Design new dashboards based on business requirements
•     Actively participate in the creation or revision of code management practices including: source code management, peer-reviews, and CI/CD automation to ensure the effectiveness of frameworks targeting data objects and the preservation of data during schema evolution

What will you bring?

  • MS or BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent practical experience in Data Engineering.

  • 4+ years’ experience with strong background in data processing and software engineering and can build high quality, scalable data products

  • Strong Software Engineering experience with proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (Python, Java, Scala)

  • Experience and proficiency in at least one high-volume data processing environment (Teradata, Oracle, Cloudera, BigQuery or equivalent)

  • Extensive experience working within cross-functional, agile or continuous delivery teams

  • Strong ability to translate data insights into practical business recommendation
