Data Engineer III – (Adabas)
Job Description
Production Database Management provides end-to-end service delivery for Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB). Our Mission is to provide value to our clients through technical leadership in development and delivery of both fully optimized standards and innovative information technology solutions to support the needs of the various lines of business within the environment.
The CIB Adabas Database Team is actively seeking a Database Analyst to join a team of four, to support Adabas & Natural mainframe database client applications.
As part of this high-performance group, the individual will be responsible for the day-to-day support of JPMC’s Adabas & Natural Systems in a data-sharing environment. You will create & implement new database models, manage existing files & databases, carry out health checks, as well as customer requests. You will also be responsible for:
- Maintenance & support of client databases.
- Assuring the highest levels of stability, integrity, reliability and availability.
- Performance & capacity monitoring, tuning and management.
- Environment management (data refresh, restores, recovery).
- Using performance reports/metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Incident and problem management, root cause analysis and resolution.
- Application development team support – advisory, consultancy.
- Supporting and contributing to JPMC projects and initiatives.
- Technical and business continuity. Manage backup and recovery planning and testing.
- LOB relationship management and communication.
You will work closely with IP Adabas team for awareness of infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, new product features, and their implications to the customer. You will liaise with other IP teams (CICS, Storage, Software, Automation, Capacity & Performance, Security, MMC, Production Control, Business Continuity) as well as LOBs (WSS, FX, TS, CBD), to ensure high availability and to deliver quality support services.

Qualifications
Ideal candidate will be familiar with the Adabas/Natural product set, have the ability to understand impact of problems on overall database performance, and be proficient in fault detection. Excellent communication, analytical and writing skills; ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously; confidence to work with many teams and different personalities is desired.
- Strong working experience with Adabas, Natural & associated products & tools in a z/os mainframe environment. Understanding of JES2 & JCL essential; RACF & CA7 desirable.
- Knowledge of third party products including Adastrip, Adareorg, Peek would be valuable.
- Solid skills in database performance factors, monitoring tools and tuning procedures.
- Strong database management skills, including backup and recovery procedures.
- Knowledge of fault detection and resolution processes.
- Natural, Cobol or REXX programming language and design technique skills would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of JPMC products such as AFDL, AFCR & LSF would be useful.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, ServiceNow, Zoom, Adobe, Symphony.
