About the Role & Team
As part of the Data Engineering team, you will be working with a team of smart, friendly, and dedicated Data Engineers, ML Engineers, and Data Scientists determined to develop high-quality data products that power core features of our app. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, a passion for data, a strong background in computer science, and an interest in professional sports, betting and/or eSports.
About the Work
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the data engineering team, providing goal setting, mentorship, coaching, leadership, guidance and performance management and feedback.
- Liaise with product management and other engineering teams to bring a new data science solution to life, including integration with downstream back end services
- Prioritize and manage data-related projects cross-functionally from inception to delivery
- Help with hiring initiatives across the product and engineering departments
- Collaborate with the team to define, track, and meet SLOs
- Stay current with trends, techniques, technology and other factors impacting data engineering as deemed necessary
About You
- A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, distributed systems, and software/system design
- Minimum 3-5 years in a data-oriented leadership or management role, combined with at least 8 years of experience in software development
- Experience leading teams of 3 engineers or more
- Demonstrated time management, project management and problem solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex technical information to various stakeholders, including non-technical members of the organization
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and work with all levels of the organization
- Excellent teamwork and team building skills with a proven ability to delegate
- Knowledge of Python and at least 1 compiled language like Java, Go, or Elixir
- Have built or led the development of distributed systems to solve complex problems over very large datasets
- Experience with Kafka, Pub/Sub, or some other streaming platform
- Understanding of tools like Airflow to orchestrate data pipelines
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
- Some experience overseeing the development CI/CD pipelines for Machine Learning projects.
- Skilled in testing and validating code, data, data schemas, and models
