Data & Insights Analyst
Job Description
Sport Chek is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Analyst to join our Data Enablement and Reporting Infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for data sourcing, validation, maintenance, and support of advanced analytics to support various business functions. This role involves working with multiple data sources, developing automated reports and dashboards, and ensuring data accuracy and consistency across the organization. Additionally, this position will act as a partner with advanced analytics teams, providing guidance on best practices for data utilization in their models.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Engineering:
- Source, validate, and maintain curated data assets including sales transactions, inventory, PO receipts, master data, and loyalty data.
- Build and maintain data pipelines using tools such as Azure Synapse and Databricks.
- Perform investigations when necessary to ensure data integrity in Data Marts
Operational Reporting:
- Develop and maintain automated email reports (e.g., hourly sales reads, daily sales type, SKU inventory summary).
- Create and update automated and manually updated reports/dashboards using PowerBI, and Excel.
- Handle ad-hoc reporting requests and exploratory analytic requests and ensure timely delivery of insights.
Data Extract Requests:
- Manage automated data requests for various departments including marketing, merchandising, and legal.
- Fulfill ad-hoc data requests from internal and external stakeholders, ensuring data accuracy and relevance.
Advanced Analytics:
- Utilize SQL, Python, and PySpark as part of data enablement efforts, and collaborate with advanced analytics teams to offer guidance on best practices for utilizing data in their analytical models.
- Leverage Azure interfaces (Synapse and Databricks) to enhance data processing and analysis capabilities.
Data Stewardship:
- Ensure data accuracy, documentation, and application of business rules to key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Maintain and update data marts to support reporting and analysis needs, ensuring consistency and performance.
Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing:
- Work closely with other teams to ensure data dependencies are met and insights are effectively communicated.
- Maintain centralized queries, code, and pipelines to facilitate knowledge sharing and reduce single points of failure.
- Act as an advocate for our data strategy by guiding stakeholders how to access and retrieve their data, empowering them to leverage available resources effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Math, data science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Proven experience with SQL, PowerBI, Excel, and Azure interfaces (Synapse and Databricks).
- Proficiency with cloud-based data platforms and tools such as Azure Synapse, Databricks, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of database management systems (SQL and NoSQL) and experience with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Python and PySpark for data analysis and pipeline building.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
