Data Product Owner
Job Description
The Bank Products and Services group provides a bank-wide product and services framework that prioritizes client needs, resources and capital demands for creating growth, providing TUCE and introducing greater innovation and efficiencies into our solutions and operating model.
In the Data Product Owner role, you will oversee the design, development, and implementation of an enterprise-wide data governance program that ensures the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of key business data and data products across UMB. You will also establish a data vision and strategy for data governance, data services, and data products while focusing on outcomes tracked through data metrics. This is a subset of the overall responsibilities which involves other multiple initiatives as assigned by Bank Product leadership. This role is hybrid (Tuesday through Thursday on-site) for candidates in the Kansas City area and open to qualified remote candidates outside of the Kansas City area but within the US.
How you’ll spend your time:
- Lead a team responsible for enabling a data strategy within the data organization, business, and other key functional areas.
- Coordinate with key functional stakeholders (i.e., risk and privacy) to leverage existing policies, standards, and processes to include key business data and data products for data governance and management oversight.
- Lead Data Governance Council discussions regarding data governance policy adoption and compliance.
- Define data quality monitoring and remediation process partnering with key functional stakeholders, data product liaisons, and analytics team.
- Lead the development and maintenance of data catalog/dictionaries, lineage, and taxonomy including identification of key business metrics, data products, and/or data elements.
- Work with business to understand business needs and desired outcomes that guides the strategic direction for the development of a data products.
- Interpret business requirements and communicating with data engineers and data analysts to develop data products.
- Prioritize data product requirements that are most critical, manage the development of the data products, and drive adoption with data analysts and data consumers once data products are released.
- Ensure data used within the data products is clean, secure, and adheres to company-wide governance policies.
- Lead data product team to ensure proper controls have been implemented for proactive monitoring of critical product features, availability, and consistency.
- Monitor and communicate data governance and data product program activities and roadmap for foundational to transformational data maturity.
- Identify constraints, risks, and coordinating problem resolution of complex issues.
- Coordinate with functional stakeholders to embed methodologies, standards, processes, and procedures throughout the data and data product lifecycle.
We’re excited to talk with you if:
- You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or related discipline AND at least 8 years of data governance and/or data product management experience.
- You have proven management/leadership experience including defining organization/roles, identifying talent, and leading the efforts of the team/oversight of the work.
- You have experience operationalizing an enterprise-wide data office and creating cross-functional operating model.
- You have proficiency utilizing data management tools and defining data concepts.
- You have knowledge and experience in financial services process/workflow including data management, card transactions, core banking deposits and customer processing, loan processing, payments, and fraud management.
- You have defined data services, roadmaps, frameworks, processes, and metrics for a data office/function within banking services.
Bonus Points If:
- You have experience with defining data risk and familiarity with financial services privacy and data risk standards.
- You have a data maturity industry framework accreditation/certification. This is highly desired.
- You understand how to progress a bank from minimal/foundational data capabilities to more advanced/transformative data capabilities.

Compensation Range:
Minimum: $124,690.00 – Maximum: $321,830.00
The posted compensation range on this listing represents UMB’s standard for this role, but the actual compensation may vary by geographic location, experience level, and other job-related factors.
