 Position Description

 

ESB is pioneering a path toward Net Zero, and our Data Governance & Quality team is at the forefront of ensuring the integrity of the data fuelling this transformation. The data function within ESB operates in a Hub and Spoke model, with the Hub acting as a Centre of Excellence, supporting the individual Spokes which sit directly within five business units across ESB. 

The Data Governance & Quality team is a key part of the Analytics Hub. This team has been set up to ensure the quality, consistency, and compliance of ESB’s data assets. It will be involved in the creation and implementation of best practices and standards for data governance, as well as the research and advancement of new technologies and ethical principles for data and AI. As a Data Governance & Quality Analyst, you’ll help shape the way ESB utilises its data to drive ethical, reliable decision-making and innovation. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Establish Data Integrity: Develop and implement comprehensive data quality standards, processes, and best practices to ensure our data is accurate, reliable, and compliant with regulations. 
  • Drive Data Governance: Work closely with stakeholders across varied business areas including renewable energy development, energy trading, and others, to establish clear data governance frameworks, promoting data stewardship and responsible data usage. 
  • Data Governance Tool: Responsible for our data governance platforms and tools, including data quality, data catalogue, data lineage, and data security. 
  • Champion Data Quality: Conduct in-depth data profiling and analysis to identify and remediate data quality issues, collaborating with the business to define and enforce data quality rules. 
  • Research & Innovation: Explore the potential of new technologies, including Generative AI, to enhance data governance, quality monitoring, and metadata management. 
  • Advance Ethical AI: Contribute to ESB’s commitment to Ethical AI development, ensuring data usage aligns with responsible AI principles and avoids bias. 
  • Support Net Zero Mission: Directly support renewable energy initiatives by ensuring data quality and consistency for projects in solar, wind, and other sustainable energy areas. 

 

 

Experience and Qualifications 

 

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years’ working experience in data governance, data analysis, data quality, or related fields, including hands-on experience with data.  
  • Business process analysis experience including eliciting requirements from key stakeholders. 
  • Working knowledge of data quality dimensions, metrics, and methodologies.  
  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation, explaining complex data concepts in clear terms. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate data discrepancies, identify root causes, and implement lasting solutions. 
  • Data quality assessment and profiling skills.  
  • Ideas-driven and creative in finding solutions/ designing improved methods, systems, and processes for data quality and governance. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to data accuracy, completeness, and consistency. 

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in defining and implementing data governance policies, standards, and processes.  
  • Knowledge of data management frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK. 
  • A passion for sustainability and an interest in the unique data challenges of the renewable energy sector. 
  • Demonstrated ability in working with data stewards and eliciting business rules around data and reporting on data quality. 
  • Familiarity with data management tools, catalogues or glossaries  
  • Experience with data visualisation tools like Power BI or Tableau. 
  • Proficiency in SQL/R/ Python or other programming languages.

 

 

Location

 

This position will be based in ESB Head Office, F27, Dublin 2.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

The successful candidate will report to the Data Governance & Quality Lead, Analytics, CIO, ESB Enterprise Services

Salary 

 

€46,000 – €54,000 depending on experience.
