RESPONSIBILITIES

The Scientific Software Engineering competence develops software solutions that support our scientists in their research and pave the way towards a fully digital lab. Based in Madrid, Spain, the position involves leading and developing an international team of employees in Kuala Lumpur, Madrid, and Ludwigshafen in the field of Scientific Software Engineering.

  • Planning, organizing, and implementing software development projects in the scientific environment.
  • Collaborating with the Data Science Leadership Team, consisting of Data Analytics, Data Integration, and Data Engineering, to ensure that software development meets the requirements of data science.
  • Defining and implementing best practices for software development in the scientific field, including selecting appropriate technologies and development methods.
  • Ensuring compliance with quality standards and best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
  • Monitoring and controlling budgets, resources, and schedules for software development projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a natural science degree with relevant experience in software engineering.
  • Experience in developing software in the scientific environment, including evaluation skills of programming languages and technologies such as Java Script (VueJS), R, Python, and databases.
  • Profound knowledge of software development methods and tools such as Agile, Scrum, and DevOps and CI/CD.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with team members and stakeholders.
  • Goal-oriented, performance-driven, innovative, and customer-oriented, as well as team and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, monitor, and control budgets, resources, and schedules.
  • Fluent English skills and ideally knowledge of other relevant languages to communicate with international teams in Kuala Lumpur, Madrid, and Ludwigshafen.
