The San Francisco Property and Casualty (P&C) practice, comprised of about 35 employees, focuses on applying advanced actuarial techniques and geospatial technology to develop innovative insurance products for traditional and start-up insurers, as well as the associated state regulatory rate filing support. We are thought leaders in climate change, artificial intelligence, telematics, and other leading-edge research. We work on some of today’s most important insurance problems, including modernizing flood insurance and addressing wildfire risk.
What You Will DoOur practice focuses on developing and introducing insurtech solutions into insurance rating and sales processes. We apply advanced actuarial and data science techniques to develop innovative insurance products for traditional and start-up insurers, and the associated state regulatory rate filing support. Often our work involves analysis of a range of data such as driver behavior collected from telematics devices, insurance policy characteristics and claims data, and catastrophe model data. Our summer Data Science Interns are given exposure to a variety of projects such as:
Building risk scores using GIS and contextual data
Data manipulation and summarization
Assisting with research and development
Processing data for predictive models and visualizations
Creating models to analyze behavior and evaluate risk
Checking work for technical accuracy
What We Are Looking For
Professional Qualifications (required)
Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science or other quantitative major
Completion of one data science college course
Fluency in SQL, R, Python and/or SAS
Able to employ a variety of supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods (knowledge of large-scale machine learning is a plus)

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this role is $18-34, depending on a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc.

Location
The expected application deadline for this job is July 1, 2024. This role is based out of the Milliman office in San Francisco, California, but candidates hired into this role may work remotely anywhere in the U.S. Some nationwide travel may be required for company and client meetings.
