The Michener Institute of Education at UHN aspires to be Canada’s, and one of the world’s, premier institutions of higher education focusing on the applied health professions.  The Centre for the Enrichment of Teaching and Learning (formerly known as the Centre for Learning, Innovation and Simulation) is the unit within Michener responsible for ensuring that Michener internalizes and uses the most effective, cutting-edge, and contemporary pedagogical techniques, methods, supports and technologies that enrich and improve the quality of the learning environment and student experience, in all of its full-time, part-time and continuing education programs.

Michener’s Centre for the Enrichment of Teaching and Learning:

  • Houses a Program Design and Curriculum Development team that works with faculty to develop and design programs and courses that are at Michener’s high-quality standard.
  • Designs and delivers a practical and effective Professional Development Program to ensure that faculty and its academic programs are at the cutting edge of contemporary and effective pedagogy.
  • Ensures that Michener uses the most effective and relevant educational technologies to optimize student learning including simulation.
  • Manages and maintains Michener’s Learning Management System, and educational programs such as the Simulated Participant Program, to ensure they are used to maximal effectiveness.

Michener seeks to hire a Senior Manager or Director (depending on qualifications) of CETL who will report to the Associate Vice-Principal (Academic).

Job Description

Department: Centre for the Enrichment of Teaching and Learning (CETL)
Status: Permanent Full Time
Site: The Michener Institute 
Salary: $95,254.94 – $139,073.57 per annum; commensurate with experience and qualifications; consistent with Michener Compensation
Hours: 35 hours per week  

This pivotal management role will be the driving force behind the design and implementation of cutting-edge learning, innovation, and effective use of educational technology supporting the delivery of high-quality educational programs. The successful incumbent’s creativity and expertise will shape the future of education as they lead faculty development initiatives and oversee multimedia production supporting  high quality  educational experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to enrich teaching and learning across Michener
  • Provide inspirational leadership to enrich and uplift the quality of teaching and learning at Michener
  • Review and enhance pedagogical design of program curriculum through the integration of educational technologies including simulation.
  • Manages and maintains Michener’s Learning Management System, and educational programs such as the Simulated Participant Program, to ensure they are used to maximal effectiveness.
  • Oversee departmental budgeting, staffing, capital purchases, and services.  
  • Design, implement, and assess faculty training workshops and education on innovative curriculum design and delivery enhancing teaching and learning at Michener. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, healthcare or related field of study
  • Masters’ degree in Education with emphasis on Adult Education, Curriculum Studies, Instructional Design, hybrid/online learning or relevant discipline (preferred)
  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in the post secondary education, educational design, faculty development and integration of educational technology and simulation
  • At least 5 – 7 years’ experience directing teams and leading curriculum development initiatives pertaining to new course or program development.
  • Proven track record of enhancing teaching and learning environments through tangible achievements, promoting the adoption of innovative and effective pedagogical methods.
  • Demonstrated capacity and track record in purposeful and effective management and supervision of personnel and resources, coupled with the ability to lead and collaborate with teams, engaging and inspiring others to action.
  • A demonstrated willingness to innovate and take risks in pursuit of strategic goals, coupled with a proven track record of turning ideas into actionable outcomes and leading successful change initiatives.
  • Experience creating instructional components using established quality assurance frameworks.
  • An affinity for educational technologies, especially those used in higher education, is an asset.
  • Knowledge of healthcare, particularly in areas relevant to Michener’s programs, is an asset.
