Head of Artificial Intelligence & Automation Transformation (AI Strategist)

Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (GLIC) has established a Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, and Delivery (TRAID) organization focused on partnering with the business teams by spearheading enterprise transformation, automation, transparency, and strategic execution to continuously improve delivery, reduce waste, increase productivity, and ultimately positively impact GLIC’s bottom line.  This team will look to empower the many positive changes already happening in GLIC by providing a holistic integrated approach to business architecture, process optimization & improvement, our operating model, digitization, insights, portfolio management & reporting, and more.

The Head of Artificial Intelligence & Automation Transformation or AI Strategist is accountable for catalyzing Guardian’s investment in AI and automation by building the enterprise strategy, identifying use cases and implementation roadmaps, leading the cross-functional delivery teams to ensure value creation, and tracking benefits.  This lead is also responsible for creating an environment for continuous improvement through digitization across people, process, technology, and data.  This role will report to the Head of GLIC Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, and Delivery in the organization’s Enterprise Strategy & Solutions division.

The ideal candidate for this newly created role, will have strong independent leadership competencies, deep business and technology acumen, and the ability to influence and drive change across a complex successful organization.  This includes a focus on driving tangible commercial results through influencing cross-functional teams that roll up to different reporting lies, a strong executive presence, and the ability to solve complex business problems.

You Will:

  • Create meaningful value via this platform in line with a specific P&L-impacting target. 

  • Provide direct and indirect leadership, leading strategic projects related to change & adoption, organizational design, operational excellence, operating model design, data and business analysis, and technology adoption.

  • Be a trusted advisor / consultant to the business by building the necessary relationships to prepare and influence the education, experiences, and exposures necessary to influence change.

  • Conduct workshop sessions to identify measurable opportunities to scope how they could deliver business value using AI and Automation. 

  • Bring alignment between technologists and business leads; help them to explore the art of the possible with generative AI, machine learning, and automation and to develop a roadmap to deliver business value in the most effective way. 

  • Demonstrate business focused technology innovation leadership aligned with business results.

  • Engage with various teams, including applied scientists, solutions architects, business development, marketing, industry specialists, partners, and regional organizations to deliver on specific measurable opportunities. 

  • Drive large, complex opportunities from ideation, through vision building and scoping, all the way to closure and into delivery.

  • Participate in the product management and marketing lifecycles (directly or indirectly).

  • Evangelize opportunities to audiences of various levels (developers to executives) and backgrounds (business, technical, operations)

  • Educate, train, design, and build solutions for a diverse and challenging set of customers and businesses.

  • Accelerate maturity of AI capabilities including governance, the platforms, the MLOps process, responsible AI, use cases and more. 

  • Deliver AI business impact across the full set of Individual Markets, Group Benefits, and Enterprise Value Streams based upon prioritization by value and difficulty to deliver. 

  • Maximize People, Culture and Talent.

  • Orchestrate joint development with AWS and other AI partners. 

  • Improve oversight including prioritization, adoption acceleration, and benefit tracking in alignment with AI and Process Optimization.

  • Broaden to include other automation paradigms beyond RPA such as low code workflow as is appropriate.

  • Delver measurable, P&L-impacting, business value through the automation of manual processes. 

You Are:

  • Experienced with and enjoy leading, coaching and mentoring a team to solve complex strategic problems

  • Excellent end-to-end generalist problem solver and able to identify issues and analyses

  • Able to navigate independently up and down the organization and work well in cross-functional teams to achieve goals through strong interpersonal and influencing skills, maturity, and judgment

  • A self-starter able who is to work independently and multi-task, with excellent prioritization skills and a clear focus on results

You Have:

  • 15+ years of strategy consulting, professional services, digital strategy development, or transformation programs.

  • Complex Problem Solving / Execution

  • Experience and a proven track record in shaping and delivering work in Artificial Intelligence, Automation, or similar complex change management effort.

  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT or Management or equivalent work experience a plus.

  • Ability to balance the long-term (“big picture”) and short-term implications of individual decisions.

  • Strong execution focus with high level of demonstrated accountability.

Location:

  • Hudson Yards, New York City 3 days per week

Salary Range:

  • $274,000 – $341,000

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
