Head of Data Governance – The role:

The Head of Data Governance will play a vital role in supporting Linklaters’ data driven decision making, ensuring that there is trust in, and accountability for, the quality of our data. You will also lead the firm’s new data science function, both as part of the Generative AI programme, and with regards to BAU delivery.

You will have a high level of influence on the firm’s data related technology road map, data exploitation processes and best practices; as well as being required to secure buy in from Business Teams leadership and senior stakeholders within the Practice.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing the firm’s data strategy, encompassing data governance, data management practices, data quality standards and data lifecycle management
  • Lead the Data Strategy & Governance Steering Committee
  • Collaborate with Technology, Risk, and other business and Practice teams to identify and manage risks
  • Coordinate with technology teams to deploy data solutions that improve operational efficiency and resilience
  • Define and track data-related metrics to assess compliance with data governance policies and identify areas for improvement  
  • Lead activities to define and manage the firm’s core vocabularies, taxonomies and dictionaries
  • Involvement in key firmwide projects to ensure that data is both represented, and an enabler of their success
  • Develop and deliver training programmes to enhance staff awareness and overall data literacy
  • Monitor relevant industry trends, technologies and legislative developments

Head of Data Governance – What we’re looking for:

  • At least 10 years’ experience in data governance; data management; or information strategy
  • Experience within a legal or professional services environment
  • Broad knowledge of the entire data spectrum, including the use of AI/ML in managing and governing data effectively
  • A proven ability to influence and drive change within a complex organisational structure
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, and experience in managing cross-functional teams and projects
  • Highly literate in cutting edge technology and best practices in data
