Head of Fraud Strategy and Analytics
Job Description
As the Head of Vanguard’s Fraud Strategy and Analytics, you will lead the team responsible for real-time fraud risk mitigation across the enterprise. This team’s roles and responsibilities include ingesting and analyzing the output of AI/ML models and tools, executing real-time rules to defend against fraud attacks, working with the teams that manage the AI/ML models, anomaly and gap identification and analysis, and driving the ongoing strategy for ensuring that risk appetite targets are met. To accomplish these goals, this role coordinates multiple teams of advanced data analysts responsible for a portfolio of strategic data projects that involve gathering data, verifying its accuracy and generating reports and dashboards, supporting the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguard’s business intelligence and data analytics & reporting capabilities.
What You Will Do:
1. Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
2. Defines divisional strategy for fraud analytics, reporting and planning, including governance frameworks, data structures, and deliverables. Leads team of advanced data analysts in execution of strategy and assumes overall accountability for success.
3. Serves as a subject matter expert for fraud analytics, reporting and planning issues within and outside of division. Participates in and promotes analytical communities of practice across Vanguard.
4. Collects, analyzes, and communicates statistics related to daily fraud mitigation business operations. Uses findings to develop processes, procedures, and workflows to improve operational effectiveness.
5. Develops and maintains strong internal and external relationships in order to manage cross-departmental and cross-divisional data projects and coordinates the resolution of operational problems and issues.
6. Develops short and long-term initiatives for division to align with business strategies. Leads business planning activities and develops budgets to determine feasibility and resource needs.
7. Builds understanding and awareness of best-in-class fraud analytics, reporting, and planning practices and adapts those practices to be applied at Vanguard.
8. Defines internal and/or external suite of products and custom and scalable analyses to meet stakeholders’ needs for information and insights. Develops a technology strategy and owns or manages vendor relationships supporting the delivery of analytical capabilities. Researches and applies industry best practices and market trends.
9. Drives innovative analytic applications and results. Keeps abreast of industry, market and company trends, and partners with business leaders to champion the adoption of new data, analytic approaches, techniques and capabilities.
10. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
What It Takes:
- Minimum of ten years related work experience in analytical roles related to fraud mitigation, with 6 years of experience leading analytical teams.
- Experience with data wrangling required. Programming skills to access, transform and prepare large scale data for statistical modeling
- Experience utilizing statistical and machine learning methods to detect and mitigate fraud required.
- Undergraduate degree in Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or related analytical field of study or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Graduate degree preferred.
