Your Impact:

This position is responsible for managing multiple SQL Server instances across geographically different datacenters. Ensure that availability, scalability and uptime requirements of database services are clearly understood and addressed. Preserve the integrity and design of mission-critical databases necessary for business operations. You will work in a fast-paced organization while quickly learning new skills and creating ways to consistently meet service-level agreements for our global cloud services.

 

What the role offers:

  • Provide proactive knowledge and act as an escalation point for Engineering, Service Support, and Service Delivery teams.
  • Resolve issues & incidents within defined SLAs.
  • Proactively work with vendors & providers on issues identified in products and chase issues until successful resolution.
  • Independently implement approved medium and large-scale projects that align towards service and departmental goals.
  • Lead, coordinate, and manage all aspects of database implementation.
  • Oversee the direction, development, and implementation of database software solutions.
  • Participate in the design process of new databases, and strategies.
  • Manage solution offerings to solve complex integrated business problems.
  • Own technology solution within respective area of sub-expertise including overall design, key decisions, and relations with business owners.
  • Provide direction for the DBA team in support of database operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to the enterprise, act as single point of contact for DBA related issues.
  • Coordinate with systems administrators, network engineers, and other teams towards availability, reliability, and scalability of database environments
  • Recommend and execute modifications to database infrastructure to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Keep current with related technologies and releases.
  • Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversee new and existing equipment and software upgrades.
  • Work off-hours escalation as part of a pager-rotation shift or an emergency with 10 minutes of Response Time.
  • Ensure completeness and quality of all deliverables.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policies and standards to meet compliances, availability and disaster recovery, acting as an escalation point for project team members to provide issue resolution.
  • Document technology deployments by creating Standard Operating Procedures, training guides. Train coworkers and other members of Operations staff.
  • Acting as backup for other team members when necessary.
  • On-call rotation is required, as 7x24x365 support is necessary.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of Information Technology experience, working on large scale enterprise systems
  • Excellent understanding of SQL Server technologies and related product / technologies used in replication such AlwaysON Availability Groups (AG).
  • Current Microsoft certification
  • Must have worked in services with 99.995% or more uptime/SLA.
  • Worked in services requiring 10 minutes of Response Time to Incidents including experience in carrying on-call rotation pager.
  • Experience in implementing local recovery and disaster recovery.
  • Monitoring and tuning database and query performance.
  • Experience in designing and implementing monitoring of databases and related technologies.
  • Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.

 

 

Additional Value-Added Qualifications:

  • Administrative experience with relational databases such as Oracle, or PostgreSQL
  • Clustering / load balancing concepts
  • Awareness an insight into industry trends (technology, methods, and tooling)
  • Experience with Run Deck or Ansible
  • Experience with automation or CI/CD tools, such as Terraform, Ansible, and GitLab
  • Experience supporting managed database services such as GCP Cloud SQL, AWS RDS and Azure SQL Database.
