Job Description

We are hiring a Lead, Public & Alternative Investments, Data Platforms. In this role, you will combine your passion for asset management with your expertise with data to build and support index data operations. You will be the subject matter expert on index data used across the Fund by Investment Departments and Core Services. You will manage the index component of large-scale projects and lead the discussions with Portfolio Managers, Researchers, and other internal business partners. In addition, you will engage directly with Index vendors and managed service providers to onboard new data and address business needs. You will also contribute to the development of daily processes, including playbooks, reporting, notifications, and data quality checks. You will work collaboratively with Data Engineering and Data Quality Teams in addition to business users to deploy appropriate levels of data operations.

 

The Opportunity:

  • Lead engagements with internal business partners for the sourcing of index and constituent data required for reporting or investment strategies.
  • Engage with index vendors and managed service partners to coordinate the delivery of new index data feeds, address data quality, mapping, and methodology issues; participate in roadmap and strategic review discussions with vendors.
  • Perform data validations on newly acquired index and constituent data.
  • Act as key contributor on the process of ingesting new index datasets on CPP Investments’ cloud environment; provide detailed technical and business requirements including data transformation and mapping logic and data structuring.
  • Manage and enhance investment data infrastructure through initiatives such as improving metadata and data integrity.
  • Institutionalize knowledge of index data used in investment and reporting processes.
  • Stay current with new vendor product offerings and how they might be used by the data operations team.
  • Stay current with trends in the data and analytics space (e.g., data visualization techniques, Big Data, etc.)

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, computer science, engineering, or other quantitative discipline. CFA is a plus
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience
  • Expert knowledge of index and constituent data including vendor offerings, vendor methodologies and usage patterns of index data across asset classes. Expert knowledge of index data re-distributors such as Rimes, Bloomberg, S&P and Refinitiv and their product offerings.
  • Solid SQL skills with experience in a data context is a must (e.g., data extraction, data manipulation, data analysis, etc.). Practical experience with Python and/or pyspark
  • Good understanding of key financial data concepts related to index data such as performance measurement and attribution, total portfolio management.
  • Strong analytical skills; detail oriented
  • Knowledge of visualization techniques would be an asset
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work under pressure to deliver within time-sensitive deadlines
