Lead Data Manager
Job Description
Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission aligned Data Aide to support our programming for our high school students.
The Lead Data Manager will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
We are currently seeking a Lead Data Manager to oversee program data and ensure that it is cleaned, organized, and in compliance with HCZ and program guidelines. The Lead Data Manager will manage program Data Managers and, in some instances, data aides when needed. The ideal candidate will have exceptional data management, team management, and analytical skills and is professional, creative, and energetic to work in a community-based organization.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook,
- Experience with utilizing large data sets to create reports and data visualization that demonstrate trends and OKRs (objectives and key results)
- Must pass a Microsoft Excel data manager test to demonstrate proficiency (including use of advanced functions)
Who you are
- A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
- Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of relevant work experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
- Familiarity with ETO reporting is a huge plus
- Must have strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Must be flexible and possess the ability to work under pressure
- Familiar with issues prevalent in under-served communities
- Ability to understand, interpret, and present data
- Ability to plan and oversee a work plan and project, modifying as needed and working with a team to drive projects through to completion
- Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically; able to keep complete and accurate records
- Familiarity with Salesforce or other large data management systems preferred
- Experience with the Department of Youth & Community Development data systems, a huge plus
What You’ll Do
- Ensure primary data systems and secondary systems are utilized to their full potential; provide support to staff to ensure effectiveness;
- Implement processes to maintain data-integrity within our systems
- Regularly evaluate existing systems to identify areas where needed information is not effectively captured and reported; propose innovative solutions to these challenges
- Accomplish day-to-day work operations by establishing and managing data processes to track comprehensive student information in an easily accessible fashion accurately
- Supervise, manage, train and counsel Data Managers, and Data Aides to ensure their steady reliability, growth, and success
- Create quality data visualizations based on raw data
- Review all stages of the data life cycle for accuracy and completeness
- Generate and analyze site-specific data reports, including aggregate data snapshots, to assess for trends around student participation, involvement in specific program activities, academic achievement, progress towards goal completion, and the like
- Share report analyses with the Managing Director and site Directors helping them to interpret reports and clarify focus areas for site participants
- Identify and implement strategies to leverage data to improve program performance
- Manage high profile data related projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule
Ability to work flexible hours, Monday – Friday, 10 AM – 6 PM, 11 AM – 7 PM

The annual salary range for this position is $60,000 – $70,000 per year with a comprehensive benefits package including employer-covered health insurance.
