Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month contract opening for a Machine Learning Engineer.

About the team:

The Big Data and Intelligence Platform lab is focused on advancing core AI technologies for the Cloud, utilizing large language models (LLMs) to tackle complex real-world challenges across various sectors. Composed of researchers with advanced degrees from top Canadian universities, this lab specializes in integrating LLMs for operations research, analytical databases, and data systems, optimizing efficiency within LLM architectures. This lab prioritizes responsible AI practices, including data watermarking and federated learning. Committed to academic excellence, findings are published in leading conferences, shaping the future of AI technology and contributing to the scientific community.

About the job:

  • Leverage state-of-the-art research to deliver high-quality models enabling multiple Machine Learning projects at scale.

  • Conduct research and development in Machine Learning algorithms for Autonomous Driving, including Computer Vision, Foundation Models, LLM, Vision Language Models, etc.

  • Design and implement Deep Learning-based systems in collaboration with corresponding production teams.

  • Data generation, collection and preprocessing to train Deep Learning models.

  • Production level optimization of models and systems to guarantee best performance.

  • Generate reports and documentations based on experiment and analysis.

  • Deliver developed solutions and provide technical support for production teams.

  • Collaborate with researchers to file high-impact patents and publish top-tier conferences.

The target annual compensation (based on 2080 hours per year) ranges from $93,000 to $116,480  depending on education, experience and demonstrated expertise

Requirements

About the ideal candidate:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with a focus on machine learning, computer vision, or mathematics.

  • Experience in Software Development, Machine Learning, Data Engineering, Data Science, or related field with a track record of solving industrial problems with SOTA Machine Learning algorithms.

  • Direct experience in using Machine Learning algorithms for Autonomous Driving.

  • Hands on experience with Computer Vision, 3D Graphics and Geometry algorithms.

  • Experience in fine-tuning of Foundation Models (Language, Vision and/or Multi-modal Foundation Models)

  • Proficient coding skills in Python and Pytorch with the ability to efficiently translate research ideas into prototypes.

  • Demonstrated success in deep learning projects involving CNNs, Transformers, LLM, VLM, etc.

  • Demonstrated industrial experience in building large scale machine learning solutions for production-oriented tasks in computer vision, autonomous driving, AIGC, or robotics.
