We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied Ph.D. program in the area of human-agent interaction, its applications and industrialization in the BMW production system. Our department is responsible for implementing new technologies in the context of a consistent digitization strategy for the BMW production system. The focus is on the development of platforms for the efficient provisioning of LLM-based applications for specifically for designed for direct and indirect production environments. This includes the combination of various data sources, end-user-oriented interface modeling, as well as the definition and enforcement of standards in dealing with foundation models.

 

What awaits you?

  • The research of advanced agentic strategies with strong focus on retrieval, proper tool selection, and context-building.
  • You will develop state models to control and align the agent’s behavior with the user’s state of action over the course of longer conversations.
  • You will contribute to reliable user-intent understanding and trust in the agent’s provided outputs and explanations.
  • You will define objective metrics to measure the effectiveness of data agents. You will implement your concepts as actual use cases for evaluation and benchmarking.
  • The opportunity to attend international conferences, publish your results and create collaborations with other research partners.
  • You communicate ongoing developments in the area within the team and the overarching AI-network.

What should you bring along?

  • An excellent master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, machine learning or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of deep learning and natural language processing.
  • Strong practical experience in python programming.
  • Proficiency in modern software development.
  • Experience in at least one common LLM open-source framework like LangChain, or Llama-Index.
  • Familiarity in dealing with public cloud architectures and services is a plus.
  • Very good command of the English language.
