Where the chemistry happens…

 

We are seeking a professional like you to join our Chemical and Process Engineering Research group in the field of fluids processing. Our team specializes in a variety of unit operations such as distillation, gas scrubbing, stripping, liquid-liquid extraction, and heat transfer. The purpose of the Fluids Processing team is to maintain and elevate BASF’s technological leadership by developing innovative solutions for BASF operations, helping design, optimize and troubleshoot process equipment, and developing new technologies. Day to day operations will be at the BASF office in Houston but interaction will be with a large variety of BASF units in North America and globally, which also includes travel activities in North America (less than 10% of the time). 

As a Research Engineer, You Create Chemistry By…

 

  • Independently executing small projects or participating in complex projects; executing complex projects under guidance of manager or senior team member; following global RGU design methods / best practices and document all results following RGU reporting procedures
  • Designing and planning lab experiments and plant trials according to project needs.
  • Interacting with stakeholders/customers (e.g., technology manager, process manager, others) to clarify project needs, boundary conditions and solution proposals.
  • Proposing new research projects and actively exploring ways to optimize existing BASF plant operations.
  • Developing and broadening your technical expertise in fluids processing and plant operations. 
  • Complying with EHS rules, initiating safety reviews for experiments, and assuming EHS responsibilities as required.

If you…

 

  • Have a Bachelor and Master Degree in Chemical Engineering with 5 years of experience in R&D industry or Bachelor’s Degree with a PhD in Chemical Engineering.
  • Have demonstrated experience in the areas of distillation, hydraulics of column internals, overall flowsheet simulation, and phase equilibrium thermodynamics (preference will be given to candidates with this experience).
  • Have experience with a commercial process simulator, techno-economic analysis, phase separation or heat exchanger design (it is a plus). 
  • Have a methodological background for problem identification as well as experience in supervising lab or pilot experiments.
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal and strong project management skills, with the ability to effectively work in teams.
