Department Overview

The Language and Audio group within the Chief Technology Office brings together commercial security systems solutions with Motorola Solutions’ end-to-end suite of public safety offerings, leveraging cutting edge voice technology, language and video models, natural language understanding to enable our customers to focus on what matters while providing faster responses, safer outcomes and greater transparency.

The candidate will join a collaborative team of data scientists, designers, and developers. We apply state of the art methods of artificial intelligence to problems in public safety, including information retrieval, human-computer interaction, machine translation, and video understanding. Our established collaboration and trust with customers lends us unique access to public safety data and end-user research.

Job Description

We are offering a unique opportunity for a Research Scientist Intern to join our team and work on cutting-edge projects in the field of natural language processing and data integration. In this role, you will be responsible for prototyping methods for processing text to enable natural language interfaces. You will also focus on connecting data from various sources, including images, video, and audio, through structured databases. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of computer understanding of human grammar and syntax.

As a Research Scientist Intern, you will collaborate closely with designers and back-end engineers to understand the requirements of the interfaces supported by your algorithms. Leveraging your scientific research skills, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop reusable components that contribute to the overall product and service offerings. Your work will have a direct impact on our customers, providing them with innovative language and video technology solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Prototype and develop methods for processing text for natural language interfaces.

  • Connect data sources, including images, video, and audio, through structured databases.

  • Contribute to the computer understanding of human grammar and syntax.

  • Collaborate with designers and back-end engineers to understand interface requirements and develop algorithms accordingly.

  • Utilize scientific research skills to develop reusable components.

  • Work as part of a team to contribute to the development of language and video technology products and services.

  • Ensure the quality and reliability of developed components through rigorous testing and evaluation.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of natural language processing techniques and algorithms.

  • Familiarity with data integration techniques and structured databases.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Passion for AI and its potential impact on public safety.
