Job Description
The responsible investment function at Evelyn Partners is part of the Investment Strategy Team. The function assesses material risks to client investments based on environmental, social and governance considerations, as well as performing and overseeing stewardship and engagement activities. In addition, for those clients who wish non-financial considerations to be used in constructing their portfolios, it also captures the adverse impacts that these investments could have on the wider environment and society.
The function also:-
- supports investment managers with client needs relating to responsible investment.
- provides regulatory reporting and voluntary sustainability-related disclosures on behalf of the investment management department for UN PRI, UK Stewardship Code, CDP amongst others.
- engages with investee companies to promote transparency of reporting of environmental, social and governance factors.
- encourages investees to manage and where possible reduce risks to their businesses.
- follows up engagement activity with proxy voting.
- supports ongoing integration of ESG considerations into Evelyn Partners investment process, including implementing industry best practice and sustainability related regulation.
These tasks present the responsible investment function with a variety of data needs as it relates to sustainability requirements for our investment process, client preferences and regulatory/voluntary reporting:-
- enrich investment data with a variety of factors such as carbon emissions.
- aggregate the resulting data set in multiple slices to show the attributes of different investment strategies and products.
- remain current with the approach adopted by third party data vendors with regard to data collection and the resulting data reliability.
- understand the methodologies of third-party data vendors to computing forward looking metrics such as Climate Value at Risk and Implied Temperature Rise.
- manage the data environment under which investments are presented for proxy voting from our investment ledger to our voting adviser and communication agent.
- produce comprehensive and accurate reporting of our voting activity using the records of our voting adviser.
The responsible investment function needs a Data Manager to oversee these data needs who would report into the Senior Project Manager. The Data Manager will be part of a team comprising of sustainability specialists, data and stewardship analysts and will work collaboratively with investment teams and other functions across investment management.
Your key responsibilities
- Responsible for understanding, sourcing, and ensuring continuous relevance of sustainability related data for our investment process.
- Be the Evelyn Partners sustainability related data expert with regard to coverage and integrity and ensuring that our data is aligned to the business needs, including our regulatory/voluntary disclosures.
- Collaborate with Investment Risk, and other internal departments managing our investment ledger/settlement activity and third-party data technology providers.
- Your role involves generating reports and providing specialist insights from sustainability related data to inform decision – making, working closely with, and supporting our sustainability investment specialists.
- Contribute to the design and upgrade of data models to ensure data structures are optimized for efficient data retrieval and analysis, including climate scenario models to meet our regulatory obligations.
- Continuously develop and improve sustainability and climate methodologies for portfolio assessments including climate risk metrics.
- Manage relationships with relevant data vendors.
- Develop and continuously improve data reporting standards to stay at the forefront of industry developments, including TCFD, ISSB, CDP, UN PRI, TNFD, UK SDR. This includes designing and quality assuring internal and external sustainability and environmental impact reports for disclosures and client reporting. This also includes due diligence on data used and implementing changes to continuously improve our responsible investment process and data management framework.
- Guide the Data Analyst within the responsible investment function to source and understand data for onward transmission to investment managers or for regulatory purposes.
- Other tasks as required within the responsible investment function.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Quantitative and qualitative demonstrated data analysis experience in the sustainability and climate/environmental field, especially to assess the climate alignment of various sectors is a must
- Experience in modelling in Excel, including advanced Pivot tables, and using Python, SQL is a must.
- Experience using sustainability data from various ESG data vendors and solid understanding of their methodologies is a must.
- Knowledge and experience of MSCI climate tools and/or other climate data providers is highly desirable.
- Front office wealth management experience is strongly desirable as the role will involve integrating responsible investment into front office processes.
- Solid knowledge and experience implementing EU/UK ESG regulations such as TCFD for climate related disclosures and the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) applied to financial institutions is highly desirable.
- Be familiar with the scientific underpinnings of climate change policy and a solid understanding of the concepts of physical and transition risk, the tools, and frameworks available to assess exposure to these risks, and management of these risks in an investment context is highly desirable.
- Experience with data visualization tools and analytical tools (Power BI) useful but not essential.
Your professional qualifications and education:
- Climate CFA certificate or equivalent
- Investment Management Certificate (IMC) or equivalent
- Degree educated in a relevant field, preferably with a quantitative capacity.
