Job Description

Aviva are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our 1st Line GI Risk and Quality Assurance team in a new role as Data Governance Consultant. The successful candidate can be based a commutable distance from either our Dublin, Galway or Cork offices. This role will be a great fit for an individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and proven track record of delivery who is keen to build experience in data governance, with the potential to develop and progress in future as they gain skills and knowledge in the role.

*Please note this is not a Data Analyst role*

Initial training will be provided to the role-holder by the 2nd Line Data Protection team and there will be regular liaison with this team who will provide guidance on any joint activities where they are also involved and an escalation point when needed.

This is a varied role which will covers a range of data governance activities and controls including but not limited to; data quality issues, data retention schedule updates, data deletion MI, data owner attestations, risk and control assessments, data register & data map reviews, data breaches, data subject access requests (DSARs) and data loss prevention (DLP) monitoring.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain data quality issues log, prepare monthly reports and escalate issues to DGO.
  • Facilitate review and update of the Data Retention schedule.
  • Collate and distribute data deletion MI to system owners; ongoing support various Aviva Group projects.
  • Maintain log of Data Role holders and facilitate review and approval of Roles & Responsibilities and training, including follow up chasers & escalation to Data Governance Officer (DGO) & Aviva Executive (AE).
  • Perform control updates and assessments and Group 2nd line Risk audits.
  • Facilitate ad hoc and annual review and approval by Data Owners/SMEs of Critical Data Register, Record of Processing Activities (ROPA) and data maps, including follow up chasers and escalation to DGO and AE.
  • Review sample of Privacy Notices; provide summary of findings to 2nd line Data Protection team; facilitate document updates.
  • Review and remediate DLP alerts and escalate to 2nd line Data Protection team where required.
  • Maintain the Breach Log, review breach forms and liaise with the business on any queries and steps to be taken; escalate breaches to 2nd Line Data Protection team where reportable; run monthly MI report and carry out a comparison with the Breach Log.
  • Maintain the DSAR Log and liaise with the business to support completion of the requests in line with regulatory timescales; run monthly MI report and carry out a comparison with the DSAR Log.

Skills and Experience:

  • Ideally holding or working towards a qualification in governance or data protection.
  • Previous experience in a governance, risk or data protection role would be beneficial, though not essential as initial training in data governance will be provided .
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage their own workload, and the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively to achieve tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of the importance of good data governance and protection practices and the risks related to non-compliance with legislation and regulation in this area.
  • Clear communicator who is confident to liaise with customer-facing teams and Data Owners to ensure that all regulatory and internal timescales are met.
  • Keen interest to learn and build experience in data governance, with the potential to develop and progress in future as they gain skills and knowledge in the role.
  • ‘Can do’ attitude and proven track record of delivery in previous roles.
