About the Role

This is a research intern position within the Advanced Robotics team in the Corporate Engineering and R&D department. The Advanced Robotics team is focused on developing novel technologies that give robots human-like capabilities in perception and dexterity. The candidate will design, develop and evaluate Task and Motion Planning algorithms for Articulated Manipulator Robots. The candidate will get a chance to work under the guidance of a Robotics Software Technical Specialist. Magna’s Student Program provides students the opportunity to gain practical work experience in their area of study related to the automotive industry.

Your Responsibilities

•    Review, Evaluate and Benchmark the performance of Motion Planning algorithms for Articulated Robot Manipulators.
•    Implement the Motion Planning and Task Planning algorithms in C++ in ROS 2 environment.
•    Create representative case study to understand solution capabilities and limitations.
•    Create, modify, and implement the software packages to a practical application.
•    Develop evaluation criteria to test and evaluate the effectiveness of the systems.
•    Present technical results and provide recommendations based on the case study.
 

Who we are looking for

•    Prior experience or skilled in implementing Motion Planning algorithms using OMPL and Move It 2
•    Excellent coding and scripting abilities in C++, Python and ROS 2.
•    Prior experience in working with ROS 2 and Robotic Manipulators in simulation or on a real-world Robot.
•    Prior experience in AI, FSM, Behavior trees, and Task planning frameworks.
•    Good understanding of Forward/Inverse Kinematics, Robot Dynamics and experience in Algorithm development.
•    Good understanding of Robotics fundamentals.
•    Curious, Problem Solver, Team Player and ability to thrive in collaborative, small team environment.
 

Your preferred qualifications

•    Current Graduate student preferably in a MS or PhD program focused on Robotics, Motion Planning, Controls and Task Planning for manipulator robots.
