Scientific Writer
Job Description
This role will be essential for disseminating our research and securing competitive funding, thus positively impacting team research for our group. In-depth experiences in scientific and technical writing for technical reviewers, funding agencies, and the public are a requirement.
Ideal candidate: Understands the role of scientific research and grant funding in a major university setting and adapts accordingly to research changes and advancements. Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud or similar products highly desirable.
KEY FUNCTIONS
- Writes, edits and coordinates production of highly technical biomedical material including scientific papers, grant applications, technical and lay reports.
- Retrieves data from databases and other internal and external data and information sources.
- Provides proofreading, copyediting, line editing and minor reorganization of manuscripts and other documents.
- Coordinates planning, information gathering and logistics for the writing of grants/articles/technical reports.
- Coordinates production, graphics, and photos. Assists with posting, editing, and proofreading.
- Writes and submits successful grant applications, particularly large collaborative science grants.
- Maintains excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
- Possesses the ability to meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.
- Utilizes current tools and technology to maximize efficiency and clarity of written materials.
- Supports leadership with identification, preparation, coordination, and submission/tracking of grants and manuscripts.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Four years experience in communications, writing and editing technical/scientific material in a medical, academic or research setting. With preferred degree, two years of required experience.
Preferred: Ideal candidate: Understands the role of scientific research and grant funding in a major university setting and adapts accordingly to research changes and advancements. Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud or similar products highly desirable.
