Job Description

The Role 

We are seeking an exceptionally talented individual to join our Risk team as a Sector Data Analyst.  The Sector Data team works closely with portfolio managers, technologists, and others to incorporate real world data into the investment process.  You will be responsible for processing and analyzing this data and working closely with our investment teams to maximize the alpha generated from your insights.

 

What you’ll do 

  • Use real-world data to address complex investment theses across multiple market sectors.
  • Coordinate with investment and market data teams to find and exploit alpha sources.
  • Push actionable significant insights, forecasts, and inflection points to investment teams.
  • Contribute to all aspects of the data science pipeline, including data ingestion, processing data into researchable views, and generating economically meaningful features and forecasts.
  • Build technology, tools, and processes to handle some of the world’s largest and messiest data in a scalable way.
  • As an early joiner, help build the sector data capability at Schonfeld into a best-in-class function.

 

What you’ll bring

What you need:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as mathematics, data science, computer science, or similar field.
  • Experience in a similar role at a hedge fund, data provider, or other data-oriented role.
  • Strong programming and data analysis skills in a Linux environment, especially in Python and SQL.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A keen, analytical eye with attention to detail.
  • Thoroughness and strong ownership of work streams and end products.
  • A passion for financial markets and data.
  • Experience in a high volume, fast paced work environment.

We’d love if you had:

  • Knowledge of statistical packages.
  • Specialized knowledge of different industries and/or data sources.
  • Experience with Spark.
  • Experience building data pipelines.
  • Experience with large, messy, real-world data.
  • Experience explaining complicated, data-driven insights in an investment context.

The base pay for this role is expected to be between $150,000 and $225,000. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation such as a performance bonus and a competitive benefits package. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications and experience.
