Job Description

  • Supporting the team and ensuring the team are following best Agile and Engineering practises. Completing PR reviews, hosting weekly sprint ceremonies and engaging during retrospectives and refinement sessions 

  • Automatically deploying pipelines from Dev-NonProd-Prod, providing support and ensuring that data pipelines are scalable, repeatable, and secure, and can reliably provide the quality and throughput of data required for complex machine learning workloads using extremely large datasets 

  • Providing technical leadership support and oversight to an enthusiastic and motivated development team comprised of big data engineers, platform engineers and analysts, to ensure the technical requirements of our numerous stakeholders are met in the most efficient way. 

  • Partnering with Data and Machine Learning Scientists, Solution Architects, Principle Engineers and others to deliver real business impact. 

  • Coaching and mentoring engineers within the team, and contributing to wider engineering initiatives across ASOS 

  • Delivering high-quality software, which is future proof, scalable and in-keeping with ASOS standards, while using the latest tech, such as Azure Feature Store, AML, and Delta Live Tables 

  • Research and experiment with emerging data technologies and industry trends with a view to bringing business value through early adoption 

  • Joining our regular Tech Develops days to learn new things, take part in internal and external hackathons, share your knowledge and help to drive improvements in engineering. 

  • Continually develop and improve our code and technology, whilst playing an active role in the conception of brand-new features for our millions of global customers. 

  • Supporting our culture by championing diversity, equity and inclusion strategies and fostering an inclusive, safe and collaborative team environment where engineers feel empowered to contribute. 

Qualifications

  • Strong technical capabilities and understanding of Big Data core concepts and technologies, and an ability to communicate complex solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences 

  • Cloud experience (Azure/AWS/Google) 

  • Comprehensive programming knowledge, with an understanding of OOP principles and cloud engineering practices 

  • Python and/or Scala, ideally both 

  • Strong experience in source control, GitHub and Azure Repos 

  • Deep exposure to Microsoft Azure, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage, Keyvault, Azure Databricks and Apache Spark 

  • Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Ansible and Terraform 

  • Experience in building real time/batch data, high throughput processing infrastructure 

  • Knowledge of RDBMS, ETL and Data Warehouse Technologies 

  • Fully-automated provisioning and application deployment pipelines 

  • Infrastructure automation using a scripting language like bash or powershell 

  • The ability to balance feature delivery with engineering considerations such as technical debt, and in delivering services that are highly-available, low-latency and scalable 

  • Exposure to a microservices architecture 

  • Container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes

Nice to have:

  • Spark optimization tips and tricks 

  • CosmosDB  or equivalent NoSQL databases 

  • Knowledge of advanced analytics and insights techniques (e.g. predictive analytics, machine learning, segmentation) 

  • Knowledge of deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras 

  • Knowledge of machine learning libraries like MLLIB, sklearn 

  • Experience in retail and/or e-commerce
