Job Summary

We are looking for a Data Analyst / Data Scientist to join our dynamic and diverse Risk Measurement and Analytics team. We are seeking people that are passionate about using data to solve problems, to turn data into information and information into insight that will lead to informed business decisions.
Therefore, the purpose of the role is to enable Absa, Relationship Banking Credit to minimise credit risk and regulatory capital through:
• Proposing strategic and tactical solutions via a collaborative approach involving data science and mathematical / statistical analysis;
• Quantifying risks and benefits associated with solutions to enable the business and help senior management make data driven decisions across the entire Relationship Banking Credit department;

Job Description

  • Interpret data, analyse results and interpret trends enabling continuous improvement in risk measurement, data quality and overall business performance;
  • Extracting, Aggregating, Cleaning and Analysing Data from Large Relational Databases
  • Proposing strategies/solutions to business problems that are signed off at organisational committees;
  • Driving implementation and monitoring of approved strategies/solutions from a business perspective;
  • Interact and collaborate with technical (finance, risk, data teams) and other business stakeholders to identify data sources, find data definitions for master and metadata as well as formulate and implement solutions;
  • Create detailed specifications that specify data sources, data flows, data transformations, data storage and reporting including documentation such as source-to-target-maps, data dictionaries and data models;
  • Promote reusability, maintainability, reliability, and scalability in design and development of analytical and data solutions;
  • Explore and promote predictive and prescriptive analytics;
  • Demonstrates analytical skills and deep interest in research with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to draw actionable insights from raw data and information with the ability to provide recommendations to maximise the value of data across the business;
  • Ability to communicate well with different types of stakeholders, adapt to different project environments and play a flexible role in projects
  • Knowledge and/or experience in data lakes and data warehousing architectures including cloud technology and environments;
  • Proven experience building logical solutions using industry best practices, patterns and frameworks;
  • Practical experience using database management and reporting tools, BI methodologies and data visualisation;
  • Other basic skills to include: Analytical Skills, Communications Skills, Computer Literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook), Numerical Reasoning skills and Presentation Skills

Education

Bachelor’s Degree: Actuarial Science, Bachelor Honours Degree: Statistics, Bachelors Degree and Professional Qualifications: BMI – Business Management and Informatics, Master’s Degree: Data Science
