We are looking for a Data Engineer to support the Foundation Engineering team. You will work cross-functionally to help drive analytics, enablement, and data-driven decision-making for our global engineering teams. Foundation Engineering at Zendesk strives to provide the infrastructure for Zendesk engineers to safely and efficiently deliver reliable products at scale. 

As a Data Engineer, your role will be designing, constructing, testing, and maintaining highly scalable data pipelines. You will ensure that systems meet business requirements and industry practices, and you’ll have the opportunity to work with many datasets and tools such as AWS, GCP, Datadog, and Snowflake, among others. Your responsibilities will include integrating these systems with the architecture used across the company and building the foundation to help enable engineering with self-service data products. Your contributions will play a significant role in shaping our engineering data strategy and will directly impact decision-making capabilities throughout all of Product Development.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to the team’s Python-based ETL pipeline to help centralize engineering operational metrics

  • Use and mentor on best engineering practices such as version control system, CI/CD, code review, pair programming

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery

  • Migrate existing data pipelines to Zendesk Data Platform (Fivetran, AWS, dbt, snowflake)

  • Promote data to drive and elevate decisions and measure success within Zendesk Engineering

  • Develop data solutions, including dashboards, that enable self-service by getting critical data to decision-makers

  • Integrate data from outside sources into BigQuery, Snowflake and/or Athena for further optimization

  • Build relationships and collaborate with internal engineering, product, and enterprise data and analytics teams 

What you bring to the role:

  • 5+ years of data/analytics engineering experience building, working & maintaining data pipelines & ETL processes 

  • Proven proficiency in Python & SQL

  • Internally motivated, self-starter with an analytical and curious mindset to help find insights and show the value of data-driven decision-making

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate with technical and non-technical teams

  • Detailed-oriented with a passion for analytics and problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with dbt

  • Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code practices, particularly using Terraform

  • Familiarity with AWS Athena, Google BigQuery, and/or Snowflake

  • Background working with large data sets and/or data APIs together with cloud object storage such as AWS or GCP

  • Robust root cause analysis on data and processes to resolve specific business questions and pinpoint areas for advancement

  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)

The Poland annualized base salary range for this position is zł198,000.00-zł340,000.00. Please note that while the salary range represents the minimum and maximum base salary rate for this position, the actual compensation offered will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives that will be communicated during the offer stage.
