Senior Data Scientist
Job Description
Location: Hybrid Role – Atlanta, GA Or Raleigh, NC preferred

Summary of Position:
The Senior Data Scientist is accountable for working directly with clients, managers and technical staff to understand business needs, develop technical plans, and deliver data-driven analytical solutions that solve client problems. This role primarily creates and deploys predictive models from a wide variety of data sources and types using the most appropriate mathematical and statistical methods, while keeping abreast of new methods and technologies that can be employed in the data and analytics space.
Essential Functions:
Client Delivery and Management / Project Support
- Communicates with and leads clients on analysis decisions based on clients’ goals
- Leads engagements that span multiple years and multiple projects
- Translates business understanding into appropriate technical direction across multiple projects
- Ensures direct projects are doing code reviews; leads code and design reviews for other projects
- Sets the collaboration environment for their project team(s), and manages the technical collaboration

Growth Strategy & Execution
- Improves technical solutions by leveraging knowledge and experience to ‘connects the dots’ between different projects and by understanding common technical themes and challenges
- Ensures tactical implementation of corporate strategic and technical goals by mapping them to project-specific technologies and initiatives
People Leadership
- Guides and mentors junior data scientists
Thought Leadership
- Produces at least three items of collateral per year (blog, white paper, etc)
- Works towards mastery of additional tools, platforms, algorithms, or languages, and acts as a “go-to” person for advice and information on tools already mastered
Other Job Duties and Responsibilities
- The breakdown of work for this role is roughly 80% technical work and 20% leadership/non-technical.
- Senior Data Scientists may be invited by the CTO to serve on the Chief Scientist Committee.
Requirements (to be met prior to starting the role)
- Advanced Degree in technical field (M.S, or PhD) and 4-8 years of related work experience, OR B.S. in technical field and 6-10 years of related work experience (equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of or in combination with education requirements)
- Competency in all Data Scientist 2 skills
- Mastery of at least 1-2 tools, platforms, algorithms, or languages as part of a deliverable to a client.
Developing Skills and Competencies (to be developed while in the role)
- Senior data scientists will develop skills in people leadership – including steering, coaching, and mentoring of data scientists within their area (business unit, program area, office)

- Travel: May require occasional travel to other ERI sites and/or regular travel to client site(s)
