Job Description

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Developing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models that support vital functions of the company: sales and marketing activities, financial planning and control, network predictive maintenance, incident management, workforce planning, product pricing. We are a big international telco company, so there are lots of opportunities to practice your skills and experiment with different approaches. 

  • Work together with product owners and business stakeholders in the creative scoping process of new data science projects where later you can be the one who delivers the solution. The projects will have senior level visibility and have significant business impact. 

  • Working closely with machine learning and data engineer colleagues to develop and productionise data science solutions using cloud technologies.  

  • Keeping up to date with the latest developments in AI and Machine Learning. We can help you in this with subscriptions to online learning platforms and access to valuable certifications. 

  • Supporting knowledge sharing initiatives and helping to build a strong data science community within BT. 

 

This role will suit you if you have the following skills

 

Professional skills

 

Must Have

  • At least 3 years of professional experience developing data science solutions. 

  • Expertise in Python scripting and development for data science. Familiarity with core data science libraries (Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Matplotlib…). 

  • In-depth knowledge of various machine learning and deep learning techniques, with strong skills in model optimisation, evaluation and validation, as well as feature engineering and extraction. 

  • Expertise in SQL for querying, data manipulation, and analysis, with a strong grasp of database management and optimization to handle large datasets efficiently. 

  • Strong understanding of statistical fundamentals, including sampling, probability distributions, hypothesis testing, statistical significance, correlation, and regression techniques critical for rigorous data analysis and interpretation. 

 

Advantage

  • PhD/MSc in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline is an advantage. 

  • Experience with software engineering practices (documentation, testing, version control, CI/CD, OOP) and writing production code is an advantage. 

  • Experience with deploying, operationalising, and maintaining machine learning models in cloud environments is an advantage. 

  • Experience in utilizing cloud platforms with a preference for Google Cloud Platform is an advantage. 

  • Practical experience in implementing, fine-tuning, and deploying large language models and generative AI approaches is an advantage.

  • Strong business and commercial acumen, problem-solving analytical mindset, with a focus on understanding and delivering against the business objective.

  • Works cooperatively with a positive attitude in group settings and provides mentoring to junior team members.
