Job Description

We are seeking an AI/ML Researcher to join the Quant Research team within Nasdaq’s European Economic and Statistical Research (ESR).

In Quant Research, we provide research and analytical support on market microstructure, trading liquidity, and competitor behavior to multiple Nasdaq business units such as cash equities, equity derivatives, and listings with the aim of improving the trading environment, capital formation, and market structure within the Nordic & Baltic region. Select projects include supporting product development work on new market models and order types, helping Nasdaq’s customers optimize trading/routing decisions, and designing incentive schemes to attract order flow, and measuring the efficacy of such initiatives.

What will you be doing?

  • Identify AI/ML-based opportunities, evaluate proposals, and use cases, and collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, market data, technology, etc.) to design, develop, and implement AI/ML solutions.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of research projects including defining the project scope, building data pipelines, training, testing, and validating machine and deep learning models, visualizing, and presenting output, as well as working with relevant technology teams to industrialize the models.
  • Contribute to improvements in the research data environment and to the development of core analytical capabilities and model libraries.
  • Create clear, concise, and organized communication materials (e.g., reports, presentations, procedures, and technical documentation) for consumption by audiences with different levels of subject-matter expertise.
  • Act as the subject-matter expert on all things AI/ML, establish and manage relationships with key customers.
  • Independently work with and supervise students and interns on specific projects.
  • Stay updated on new developments within relevant AI/ML fields such as large language models.

We expect you to have:

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Several years of work experience in employing econometric, machine learning and/or deep learning tools to develop artificial intelligence models for deployment in a production environment.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar, working with specialized statistical tools and large data sets. Strong skills in SQL (MS, PostgreSQL, Redshift)
  • Experience applying sound scientific practices, formulating and testing hypotheses, backtesting, and verifying the accuracy, and predictive ability of models.
  • Experience in transforming prototype models into production-resilient application frameworks.
  • Experience in establishing data framework and data governance infrastructure for modeling.
  • Proficient English language skills.

It would be excellent if you have (the opportunity to learn):

  • Previous background in a similar role in the finance industry, preferably in a trading environment
  • Deep expertise in modern AI/ML models and their application to use cases in quantitative finance and related areas.
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Redshift)
  • Experience working in a governed development environment, having version control, doing code review, producing technical documentation, etc.

  • Monthly base salary starting from €3500 to €4500 gross based on experience. We are open to discussing a different salary based on your skills and competencies.
