The full-time Senior Laboratory Associate position is responsible for designing and constructing a system for collecting quantitative behavioral data in laboratory animals using long duration video and audio recordings. Duties include:
• synchronizing data acquisition from up to 16 microphones and 12 video cameras, optimizing the acquisition pipeline, creating a data management pipeline for a system that generates up to 10 TB per day, and deploying state-of-the-art machine learning pipelines for supervised and unsupervised analysis of audio-video data.
• developing a new tetrahedral ambisonic microphone array to acquire azimuthal position of vocalizations.
• developing a robotic system with which to present sound calibration files at high spatial resolution and at multiple angles of elevation. This device will be used to generate large-scale data sets with which to train a deep neural networks on the location and emission angle of a sound source.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $55,000- $80,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hardware-software integration with a focus on acoustic and videomodalities. The minimum qualifications include a predoctoral degree in electrical engineering or a related field, a strong background in mathematics, and experience with Python for hardware control and data acquisition.
