Nanyang Technological University
Senior Research Fellow (Air Microbiome Program)
Job Description
The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Fellow to join our dynamic team. SCELSE is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by National Research Foundation, Ministry of Education (Singapore), Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore. Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, SCELSE is linking new insights from the life sciences with expertise from emerging technologies in engineering and natural sciences to understand, harness and control microbial biofilm communities and microbiomes.
SCELSE’s Air Microbiome Programme is dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of Singapore’s urban tropical environment by investigating bioaerosol community patterns across diverse geographic regions. We explore the impact of natural and artificial climatic conditions on airborne microbes, employing a multidisciplinary approach. Our research areas encompass bioaerosol community composition, air microbiomes and human health, pathogen detection, and modeling. Through ‘omics analysis, we delve into ultra-low biomass environments, guided by aerosol physics, ecological principles, public health considerations, and systems biology frameworks.
We are seeking a dynamic Senior Research Fellow to contribute to projects focused on air quality monitoring and respiratory disease health risk analyses in public transport systems. The role involves hands-on work with air sampling, microbiome analysis from air samples, and the design and development of custom air sampling techniques and devices. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with industry partners and Singapore’s transport and environmental authorities.
