Job Description

The primary objective of the Strategic Control Testing group is to automate and transform using digital transformation tools, build machine learning models, and apply statistical techniques for effective risk management practices. This team’s role within the organization is to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and operational compliance in alignment with the various policies, laws, rules, and regulations governing the line of Business (LOBs) and Corporate Functions.

Job Summary:

As Control Manager Vice President on the Client Onboarding & Documentation (CO&D) team, you will be responsible for identifying and monitoring significant risks, ensuring compliance with operational policies, control procedures, and legal/regulatory requirements through data-driven testing and automation. You will drive effective strategic control testing techniques utilizing data and execute testing engagements of strategic importance to CO&D. Additionally, you will provide management with sufficient information to identify potential control gaps, Business As Usual (BAU) Operational breaks in CO&D and monitor key operational risks and regulatory activities/concerns. You will collaborate with colleagues across CO&D controls team, other Data Analytics teams, lines of business, Corporate Functions, and Technology to develop advanced automation solutions to identify errors / issues proactively

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Control Managers or work as an Individual Contributor to perform strategic testing activities
  • Develop and articulate sound proposals to key stakeholders, and an ability to influence and drive timely decision making
  • Identify and deliver innovative solutions, with a focus on opportunities that drive department efficiency, effectiveness and consistency
  • Actively contribute to the continuous learning mindset of the organization by bringing in new ideas and perspectives that stretch the thinking of the group
  • Stay abreast of new tools and Machine Learning, AI technologies to assist in creating the most efficient and effective solutions 
  • Perform proactive reviews on hot spots as identified through regulatory / audit reviews, raised by business partners
  • Support all aspects of the Data Analytics Testing in order to help testing of policies, laws, regulations and guidelines related to JPMorgan Chase’s LOBs and Corporate Functions
  • Work closely with Business, Operations, Control Managers and other stakeholders across all LOBs and Functions to collaborate and share information arising from testing related activities and other testing related initiatives (e.g., trends, systemic issues, control weaknesses)
  • Manage relationships and communication with key stakeholders, and provide timely and relevant information through appropriate reporting mechanisms backed with data
  • Deliver concrete analytical solutions to existing/new business problems using a combination of business understanding as well as machine learning / AI  tools and techniques
  • Act as thought leader and guide the team and stakeholders for automation opportunities

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Bachelor or advanced degree
  • Minimum 12 or more years of experience in risk management and financial services industry; domains could include compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, credit risk, market risk, business process management with many years of experience in Automation and Model building
  • Risk management, Operations or Internal control evaluation experience with demonstrated leadership skills and ability to drive improvements
  • Ability to work with large volumes of data efficiently and analyze large sets of data to accurately identify trends, patterns of problems
  • Strong technical background and ability to manage and manipulate data extracted from systems of record to conduct testing
  • Strong understanding of data profiling and data cleansing techniques
  • Experience in working with Software and programming languages such as SAS, R, or Python. Understanding of new age technologies like Large Language Models (LLM)
  • Good Knowledge of Automation and reporting tools like Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau, UI Path, Pega, and Microsoft Applications
  • Effective executive summarization of complex business problems and solutions
  • Organizational courage and willingness to make tough, informed decisions and thoughtfully share independent perspectives
  • Strong practical knowledge of analytical techniques and methodologies such as machine learning, AI

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Hands on / extensive control testing experience will be an advantage
  • Ability to develop and implement state of the art, fully scalable – various machine learning models / algorithms for risk detection, classification, prediction to aid in continuous monitoring and testing activities. (In partnership with a the AI and Machine learning team)
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, coupled with an ability to translate ambiguous ideas/issues into well-defined plans/solutions with a track-record for delivering results
  • Demonstrate balanced judgement with respect to deciding enquiries to pursue vs. cease
  • A strong interest in further developing and integrating operations with technology
  • Ability to effectively multi task – work on 2- 3 automation requests concurrently
  • Ability to work with team based at multiple locations and have flexibility regarding working hours
