About the Role:  

We are seeking a working student to join our Data team in Berlin. The ideal candidate is curious, passionate, and driven about data. You will gain first-hand experience in geospatial and enterprise data engineering, from data ingestion through modeling and analysis. You’ll build data products and solutions such as dashboards, self-service tooling, and data pipelines for consumers across Planet, leveraging tools including  git, dbt, python, SQL and Omni. What you deliver will be used to improve satellite collection performance, business strategy, and overall customer satisfaction.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Build self-service data tooling as well as metrics dashboards and maps
  • Build data models to transform business problems into actionable metrics
  • Database querying to reply to product, business and/or operational problems
  • Document data models and infrastructure
  • Perform data analysis to improve Planet operations

What You Bring:

  • Studying software or data engineering related courses
  • Sound SQL skills
  • Basic experience with data visualization and python
  • Proven reliability and accuracy in analytics work
  • Comfort working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and execute multiple projects
  • Willingness to learn and collaborate across teams
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • A belief in Planet’s mission and values

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience working with dbt and Looker, Omni or other self-service data tooling
  • Experience building and debugging CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience working with geospatial tools and formats (e.g., GeoJSON, geopandas and CARTO)
