The primary responsibility will be the operation, maintenance and reporting of data out of load forecasting and product control systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the operation of a forecasting/product control system which includes long-term forecast updates, variance analysis and reporting of retail power components. In addition, he/she will manage the effective communication of results, drivers, and feedback to stakeholders regarding the forecast output, settlement analysis, and performance analytics.

 

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering /Financial Engineering, or other quantitative field.  Advanced degrees in the above disciplines are desired. 

 

The candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in load forecasting and advanced statistical methods or roles in product control, pricing, accounting, or data management. The Candidate should also show proficiency in various aspects of other roles to show a breadth and depth of experience and knowledge and demonstrate how this education applies to energy, forecasting or product control reporting. In addition, the Candidate should have knowledge and proficiency in systems architecture as it pertains to customer data, risk and forecasting systems from a retail perspective. The Candidate will also have working knowledge of either SQL Server or Oracle SQL.

 

The candidate will also have knowledge in some of the following:

  • Regression modeling, including neural-net, simple regression, and hybrid modeling
  • Thorough understanding of load and modeling constituents, including weather and transform functions
  • Statistical analysis to construct performance metrics (MAD, MAPE, etc)
  • Moderate to advanced programming skills (SQL, scripting / object-oriented coding including Python, Matlab, R, SAS, VBA)  
  • Comprehension of deregulated power markets, portfolio management and optimization, energy supply stack, customer profiling.
  • Thorough comprehension of load, including ISO-level, regional-, zonal-, congestion-level, customer profiles, C&I and mass customers.
  • Proficient in trending analysis, correlation to weather, attrition, conservation
  • Proficient in short- and long-term forecast (time scales from hours to decades)
  • Knowledge of electricity-market hedge instruments, including settlement mechanisms, volatility attributes, and liquidity constraints
  • Knowledge of market load and deviation settlement mechanisms, capable of shadow-settlement calculations

The Candidate is expected to work in a fast-paced environment, along with a strong ability to multi-task.  Often, the Candidate will have advanced computer skills to be able to develop applications to streamline processes, extract and mine large datasets, develop front-end applications for visualization, work alongside IT for bug-fixes, code enhancements, and user-testing.  The Candidate typically possesses a fundamental knowledge of weather and energy business (portfolio optimization, applying fundamental analysis to enhance load forecasts).  The individual will also be able to convey not just the forecast output, but provide risk to the forecast (upside / downside) based on fundamental information.
