The Decision Theater (DT) at Arizona State University (ASU) organizes researchers, policymakers and the business community to better understand and explore solutions to complex issues facing society. Using data analytics and high-performance computing to drive software-integrated models, DT works with transdisciplinary partners to streamline big data and transform it into novel, interactive data visualizations. By combining a variety of technical capabilities, DT facilitates the collaborative engagement between different groups in the pursuit of comprehensive, useful, data-driven models that build shared understanding and perspectives. Managing the convergence of multiple disciplines, datasets, ways of knowing and approaches to governance is essential to the DT collaboration process.
DT seeks a talented individual who is using new technologies and large-scale data in creative ways to foster knowledge about the social world. Experience in statistical analysis, machine learning, predictive modeling, geospatial prediction, text analytics, causal inference, network analysis, or data visualization are particularly valued. The successful candidate will work with research professionals, software developers, data engineers, and graphic designers to build analytics pipelines, develop platforms with excellent visualizations to enhance decision making process from a variety of stakeholders, and provide insights and solutions that solve important problems. The candidate will have primary responsibility for department-wide initiatives and projects.
Essential Duties:
- Develop statistical and machine learning models using a variety of datasets.
- Develop processes/algorithms to clean and refine imperfect datasets obtained from various third parties.
- Design and develop prototypes for data analytics, visualization, evaluation, and decision making.
- Write peer-reviewed journal articles, research proposals and reports.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Information Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or related field, and 3 years of successful postdoctoral research/working experience
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong programming skills (e.g. R, Python, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience in advanced statistical modeling
- Machine learning techniques for regression, classification, and clustering tasks
- Knowledge and experience in network analysis to obtain some insight from social media data
- Knowledge and experience in academic publications, conference presentations, and scholarly peer review
- Be able to work both independently and collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, designers, researchers, and project managers to accomplish complex tasks that deliver demonstrable value to Decision Theater
- Be able to think critically and solve problems
- Good communication skills, quality -oriented, highly committed and professional
