Job Description
Class assignments may include both day and evening courses. This position is full-time, located on our downtown Chicago campus with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2024.
Additional responsibilities include student advising and support, curriculum development and program assessment, and participation in department and college-level meetings, working groups, and governance.
Job Duties:
Teaching – 80%
- Providing exceptional classroom instruction in computer science as appropriate.
- Incorporating evidence-based teaching methods that enhance learning outcomes for a diverse population of students.
- Serving as a resource for undergraduate students as they navigate the computer science major.
- Support graduate students to develop necessary skills in the computer science major
- Participating in the development, implementation, and monitoring of practices that promote safe and inclusive learning environments.
- Collaborating on the review and improvement of course materials, teaching methodologies, and assessment methods.
- Engaging in scholarly and/or professional development activities that inform teaching and pedagogy.
- Maintain proper class-related records, and promptly assess student coursework and apprise students of progress
- Develop curriculum and program assessment when appropriate
- Advise and mentor students as appropriate on course work and career goals
- Serve on and contribute to key committees in the Department, College and at the University.
- Other duties related to program needs.

- Effective classroom instruction and management
- Able to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, faculty and staff
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Committed to Roosevelt’s core values, mission and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff and visitors
- MS in Computer Science, or related field
- PhD candidates that are ABD encouraged to apply
- PhD in Computer Science or related field
- Documented successful college teaching experience
- Experience in one of the following areas:
- Algorithmic analysis and theory of computation
- Data mining
- AI/Machine learning
- Computer architecture/operating systems
- Experience using inclusive teaching methods to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom
- Experience in incorporating demonstrations and technology into teaching, including the use of tools such as open educational resources, online homework systems and course management software
- Experience in curriculum design and assessment, including using assessment results to improve course content and student learning outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students
