Detailed Job Description

The School of Mathematics and Statistics (SMS) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) invites applications for a full-time, open rank faculty position in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence (AI). We seek highly qualified candidates who will provide vision and leadership in advancing the field of AI, particularly through interdisciplinary initiatives and projects that complement the existing research groups at RIT, including those in astrophysics, climate science, biology, software development, statistical machine learning, computational and data science.

Candidates must possess a robust track record of research in fundamental AI and data science. We are particularly interested in individuals who have demonstrated notable innovation in recent advances, such as the foundations and applications of large language models (LLMs) or the development of novel AI algorithms utilizing the latest technologies for applications in science and technology.

The successful candidate will engage with multiple programs and research centers at RIT that are actively involved in AI initiatives, including the Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation, the Data and Predictive Analytics Center, the Astrophysical Sciences and Technology Program, and the Mathematical Modeling PhD program. RIT is committed to providing cutting-edge resources, fostering industry collaborations, and maintaining a supportive academic environment, making it an ideal setting for professional growth in this specialized field.

Responsibilities will include securing external funding, leading a vibrant research group dedicated to training graduate students, and enhancing the visibility and impact of the group through participation in conferences, workshops, and seminars. The selected candidate will be expected to publish research findings in top-tier journals and present at national and international conferences. Additionally, responsibilities will encompass research, teaching, and service to the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the College of Science, and RIT. The successful candidate will mentor and advise PhD students, as well as graduates and undergraduates in programs offered by SMS, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and develop a successful and independent research program with the potential to attract external funding.

We invite qualified candidates with a passion for advancing the fields of data science and artificial intelligence to apply and become part of our academic community at RIT.

We seek individuals with the ability and interest to contribute to a community committed to student-centeredness; professional development and scholarship; integrity and ethics; respect, diversity, and pluralism; innovation and flexibility; and teamwork and collaboration.
