Business Analytics Advisor (Medicare STARS Analytics) – Hybrid
Job Description
Summary
The Stars Business Analytics Advisor will be responsible for supporting the analytics strategy for Cigna Healthcare, performing research and analysis within the Medicare Stars program with a focus on HEDIS Stars measures. This position is located within the Medicare Stars Analytics team, who’s function is to provide operational and analytical support to internal and external partners to improve Cigna’s Medicare Star Ratings. The Business Analytics Advisor will analyze data including healthcare claims, clinical outcomes and Stars quality measures to make recommendations based on relevant findings. The Business Analytics Advisor will interface across multiple business areas, including, but not limited to clinical, pharmacy, customer experience, product development and operations as needed.
The person chosen for this role will be producing technical and analytical enhancements to further improve Cigna’s Medicare Star ratings. This role will be responsible for designing and developing advanced Stars reporting and dashboards focusing on HEDIS measures within the Medicare Stars program using a broad array of datasets. These reports will be utilized by business partners and Stars leadership in making critical business decisions related to enhancements to existing programs, development of new pilots and initiatives, and other opportunities to maximize Stars affordability and enterprise value. The ideal candidate will have a passion for healthcare analytics and a creative mindset for approaching data in innovative ways.
Responsibilities

Process and maintain Cigna’s primary Medicare HEDIS Stars Reporting.

Report to stakeholders about changes to Stars measure methodologies and data trends.

Develop reports and dashboards using self-service technologies like SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), PowerBI, Tableau, or other similar platforms to classify, quantify, and/or forecast Stars metrics to enable business partners to make sound business decisions

Extract and manipulate large healthcare data using data analytics tools such as Databricks, SAS, SQL, R, Python, Teradata, etc

Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in data sets through descriptive and advanced statistics

Develop actionable insights and present results to non-technical business partners and stakeholders to drive the decision-making process

Support the management of Stars data architecture, partnering closely with matrix partners such as IT to develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize efficiency and quality

Develop methods for improving internal techniques and processes with expertise in creating highly effective, visual graphics that tell complex stories in formats that can be easily conveyed to leadership and executive clients

Work collaboratively and partner with departments across the organization to ensure deliverables are accomplished

Act as a mentor and escalation point for other team analysts on problem solving and providing feedback and guidance on best practices
Qualifications

5+ years’ of professional experience in healthcare analytics or a related discipline

Deep understanding of advanced analytics tools and languages to analyze large data sets, including:

SQL query development and programming – Required

Tableau or PowerBI – Required

Python or R or other statistical language – Required

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

Work experience as a Data Analyst in Medicare Stars, specifically in operations and reporting

General knowledge of the CMS Star Rating System, including Administrative, HEDIS, CAHPS, HOS, and Pharmacy Measures

Extensive knowledge of customer eligibility data, medical claims, pharmacy claims, and customer experience/self-report data

Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques

Ability to understand business operations requirements and translate them into technical applications

Excellent oral and written communications skills with a proven ability to communicate complex concepts to stakeholders at all levels of the organization

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and proven ability to perform in a matrix environment

Strong ability to work autonomously and deal with ambiguity

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 89,900 – 149,800 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
