Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Business Analytics Specialist to play a key role in the Firm’s financial reporting, analysis and pricing strategies. The duties of the position include creating a variety of financial reports, along with pricing and budgeting tasks. As part of the Business Analytics team, the Business Analytics Specialist will conduct financial analysis, pricing and matter budgeting, as well as monthly ad hoc reporting. The role requires collaboration with key personnel across the Firm, including Practice Group Leaders, the Executive Committee, Chiefs, Directors and other decision-makers to support profitable solutions. The position also contributes to strategic initiatives, including the development of the Firm’s real-time financial dashboard and profitability module. The Business Analytics Specialist will be hybrid remote (onsite 2+ days per week) in our Los Angeles office and reports to the Business Analytics & Pricing Director.

The salary range for the position of Business Analytics Specialist at Nossaman is $135,000 to $155,000 annually. The successful candidate’s salary for this position is reasonably expected to be set within this range. However, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Generate and distribute key monthly financial performance reports.
  • Provide financial analysis, planning and management reporting of key operational metrics.
  • Lead all formulaic compensation reporting and liaison with the Payroll team.
  • Analyze historical data to support the development of pricing proposals and the setting of timekeeper billing rates.
  • Support strategic pricing initiatives through financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Identify, extract and summarize information from multiple sources for internal and client reporting.
  • Respond to financial and statistical surveys.
  • Provide ad hoc financial reporting and analysis to attorneys, policy advisors, department heads and management.
  • Support the annual budget process.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of profitability models and analyses.
  • Assist with the development of financial tools, processes and best practices in relation to financial reporting, analysis and pricing.
  • Perform additional projects for the Executive Committee, Chief Operating Officer and other C-Suite and Directors on a regular basis.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably within a law firm or professional services organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, economics or a related field is required.
  • Familiarity with law firm business processes, pricing, budgeting and business operations.
  • Advanced level of expertise in financial modeling and spreadsheet functionalities.
  • Proficient in data analysis and presentation of findings to management and legal teams.
  • Experience with SQL or Excel Power Query.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Big Square business intelligence tools and financial dashboards for financial reporting and analysis, a plus.
  • Preferred in-depth knowledge and experience with Aderant as a time and billing system and general ledger and reporting.
  • Must be proactive, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast-paced, dynamic environment.
