The Hartford’s International Data & Analytics team serves our strategic business partners, providing expert consultation through data and analytical tools. Our mission includes developing a deep understanding of our business and data, and transforming this data into tools that address key business questions.
As an entry level Business Intelligence Analyst, you will engage in various aspects of business analysis, including problem analysis, data source evaluation, understanding source data structures, and the development and maintenance of SQL queries to support dashboard and ad hoc reporting.
You will also review and design Tableau dashboards, becoming familiar with multiple databases, data warehouses, and data lake instances.
We are seeking a highly motivated entry level Business Intelligence Analyst with strong logical reasoning and mathematical skills. This role is ideal for individuals who excel in problem-solving and data analysis and programming, even without prior experience in business intelligence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Existing BI Team: Assist the current Business Intelligence team in their daily operations and projects.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Gather data from various sources, analyze it to determine suitability, and identify trends and patterns.
- Report Generation: Create SQL queries for ad hoc data reporting and analysis.
- Data Accuracy Review: Validate data sets to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Support Senior Analysts: Aid senior analysts in the development and implementation of BI solutions.
- Ad Hoc Analysis: Perform ad-hoc analyses as required by different departments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient data solutions.
- Dashboard Review and Development: Review and test data visualization dashboards using Tableau, and develop these skills over time.
- Troubleshooting: Resolve data-related issues, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Problem-Solving Support: Assist the team in solving data or analytical problems.
- Maintain Existing Dashboards and Queries: Support and maintain existing Tableau dashboards and SQL queries as skills develop.
- Claims Reporting: Serve as the main reporting contact for the International Claims team, using developed dashboards and data to produce claims reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree: Preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data sets and derive meaningful insights.
- Proficiency in Excel: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data manipulation and analysis.

- Eagerness to Learn: A proactive attitude towards learning new tools and techniques in the BI field. Self-starter with a willingness to become a data expert and to learn new skills.
- Programming Knowledge: Basic understanding of programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
- Familiarity with BI Tools: Exposure to business intelligence tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar is a plus, but not mandatory.
Experience
- Previous Roles, Internships or Academic Projects: Experience through previous roles, internships, academic projects, or coursework related to data analysis or business intelligence.
- Programming Knowledge: Basic understanding of programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
- Familiarity with BI Tools: Exposure to business intelligence tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar is a plus, but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of Insurance: Knowledge of key metrics associated with Insurance reporting and London (Lloyd’s) market experience is preferred, but not required
