Chime
Business Intelligence Engineer
Job Description
About the Role
As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will democratize data and drive data-obsessed decision making for all employees by helping to build and manage Chime’s Looker instance. In this particular role, you will support Chime’s cross functional teams by building reporting products that provide business/data insights.
You will additionally assist the Business Intelligence team in the creation and adoption of Lookml and also train the broader Chime Looker developers how to organize and harness their Lookml creations.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $106,300.00 – $147,600.00. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
Responsibilities
- Foster a data driven culture with your passion for telling stories with data and your skill surfacing insights through reporting and visualizations.
- Design and create visually appealing and intuitive dashboards and reports using BI tools (Looker, Amplitude).
- Present complex data insights in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders.
- Influence change by not only creating insights through visualizations, but also presenting your recommendations to a variety of levels.
- Partner with data engineers to build effective and optimized data products that power dashboards and reporting products.
- Build and own the ETL workflows and make sure the pipeline meets data quality and availability requirements.
- Partner with business stakeholders across Chime to understand their reporting needs and build reporting products (dashboards, business insights, Looker explores etc).
- Build out best practices for administering our Looker instance.
- Create governance, guidance, code reviews and access controls so that we maintain consistency, quality and business confidentiality as we scale dashboarding across our org.
- Use scripting (Python or another language) to automate repeatable tasks.
To thrive in this role, you have
- A degree in a field like Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics – advanced degrees preferred.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in business intelligence engineering, some of which has been in Looker specifically – you have managed the data backbone of the visualization hub (Looker, Tableau…) used by a small-to-medium business.
- Experience with MPP database technologies such as Snowflake/Redshift.
- 2+ years of experience in writing scalable data pipelines.
- Experience in using scripting languages such as Python for automation
- Expertise in building dashboards and visualizations both from a technical perspective (data and queries) and an “art of telling the story” perspective.
- Experience democratizing data and BI – upskilling organizations to make data insights self-serve.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and lead complex projects.
- Passion for maintaining consistency and quality as dashboards are scaled broadly.
- Experience creating style guides, coding reviews, governance processes and access controls.
- Strong SQL skills and performance tuning; experience in data modeling and data warehousing.
- Experience working across organizations with various levels of stakeholders to prioritize dashboarding needs and align reporting to business needs.
